As someone who’s spent countless hours delving into the intricate world of Marvel comics, I must say that these two characters – Weapon H and Phoenix Wolverine – are nothing short of mind-boggling. The creators have truly outdone themselves with these powerhouse combinations!

Known for his exceptional skills and notorious actions, Wolverine – one of Marvel’s most renowned characters and a celebrated member of the X-Men – often captivates young fans with his edgy anti-hero persona and formidable destructive powers.

He’s the man who had an entire X-Men cinematic universe based around him, from his introduction to the X-Men, to his origins, to his swan song, to further adventures with Deadpool. The clawed menace has had various versions of himself, especially in the comics. Here are five of the strongest Wolverines there are.

5 Old Man Logan

An Aged Wolverine

The Strongest Versions Of Wolverine
  • First Seen: Fantastic Four #558
  • Date: August 2008

A seasoned and battle-scarred Wolverine, whose life experiences span centuries. Since his initial creation, Wolverine has witnessed numerous events in his long life. Various versions of the X-Men depict him as being born in the 19th century and participating in multiple wars before joining the team. From the very beginning, James Howlett embodies an old spirit that has faced countless hardships, making a weathered Wolverine who has endured even more battles only capable of causing further destruction.

Old Man Logan, aged over 190 years, boasts a century of combat experience wielding both bone claws and adamantium blades. Compared to most other Wolverines, he’s toughened not only physically but mentally, having fought in more battles than the majority of characters still alive. Unfortunately, his advanced age has caused his healing factor to diminish, reducing his regenerative abilities compared to his prime. However, this does not quell his ferocity; if anything, it may even intensify it, making him just as, or possibly even more, bloodthirsty than other iterations of Wolverine.

In 2017, the movie “Logan,” which was an adaptation of “Old Man Logan,” served as Hugh Jackman’s final portrayal of the character, offering viewers a stark look into the capabilities of the aged and formidable Old Man Logan. And it wasn’t a pleasant sight.

4 Weapon X

An Alternate, More Intense Wolverine

The Strongest Versions Of Wolverine
  • First Seen: X-Men Alpha #1
  • Date: December 1994

One of Wolverine’s pseudonyms is ‘Weapon X,’ a title linked to the procedure that boosted his inherently lethal bone claws into adamantium blades. This clandestine government lab specializing in human augmentation performed dubious experiments on mutants, including altering their bodies and abilities for nefarious purposes. Besides Wolverine, several renowned mutants and mutates have had encounters with this lab, with Deadpool being the most notorious instance, as well as Leech and Sabertooth.

In another reality, there existed a Wolverine character who insists on being called Weapon X. This version is set in a time period known as the Age of Apocalypse, which was marked by a grim and violent turn of events. This bleak era occurred when Legion killed Professor X instead of Magneto, causing a dark timeline to unfold.

In an alternate reality known as Earth-295, the character referred to as Weapon X, or simply put, the Wolverine of that world, is exceptionally ruthless among all Wolverines. This specific Logan hails from a universe where Apocalypse conquered the continent. He’s endured more hardships than many others, even losing a hand in a fierce fight against Cyclops. Remarkably, these traumas don’t break him; instead, they seem to fuel his thirst for violence even further.

3 Vampire Wolverine

The Dracula Usurper

The Strongest Versions Of Wolverine
  • First Seen: What If…? #24
  • Date: February 1991

In folklore, Vampires were among the strongest creatures ever imagined. Similarly, The Wolverine is recognized as one of the strongest mutants ever developed. It’s no wonder that their combined power resulted in an exceptionally powerful version of Wolverine. By consuming Dracula’s blood, Wolverine transformed into one of the strongest vampire and Wolverine variants yet to be seen.

In the realm of Earth-9140, Wolverine, often referred to as ‘Wolverine: Lord of Vampires’, clashed and overpowered Dracula, the undisputed vampire king. However, Dracula’s dominance was short-lived in the face of Logan’s might. Subsequently, Logan established a more formidable vampire empire than Dracula’s. His ambition extended to transforming mutants into vampires, instilling fear among humans, capturing key cities under his rule, annihilating both heroes and villains, and ruling as the undisputed vampire ruler. However, his reign was cut short by The Punisher’s intervention and the power of ancient magical texts.

Despite having the same flaws as typical vampires, he remains susceptible to daylight and a stake through the heart may prove fatal for him, regardless of his healing powers. The idea of a Wolverine endowed with such vampiric traits is undeniably chilling.

2 Weapon H

Wolverine And The Hulk In One Man

The Strongest Versions Of Wolverine
  • First Seen: Totally Awesome Hulk #21
  • Date: July 2017

Wolverine is driven primarily by a mix of revenge and grief, a potent combination that makes him exceptional at his deadly profession – killing. He’s also been subjected to experiments that enhanced his abilities as a vengeance-seeking, rage-fueled killing machine. If you were to conduct similar experiments and create someone filled with resentment and anger, akin to The Incredible Hulk, the outcome would be Weapon H.

Clayton Cortez was once a soldier who had experienced trauma in his past. He was forcibly taken by Dr. Aliana Alba from Weapon X’s Batch-H division, where they aimed to transform him into a man with the characteristics of both Wolverine and the Hulk, essentially creating a monstrous being they could command. In essence, this process was an experiment in combining Wolverine and Hulk-like traits.

Undeniably, a formidable beast was inadvertently born, one that tragically turned against its inventors. Known as Weapon H, this character possesses the ferocious might of Wolverine and the Hulk, two of Marvel Universe’s most powerfully aggressive individuals. He is both a mutant and a gamma-mutated being. His strength mirrors that of the Hulk, his claws resemble those of Wolverine, and he embodies the combined fury of both characters, amplifying it to catastrophic levels.

1 Phoenix Force Wolverine

Old Man Phoenix

The Strongest Versions Of Wolverine
  • First Seen: Marvel Legacy #1
  • Date: September 2017

In many Marvel universes, the Phoenix Force is renowned for its immense power and ability to cause widespread destruction, especially when linked to Jean Grey, a telepathic mutant. However, there are instances where Jean Grey isn’t available, and in such cases, the Phoenix Force seeks out other powerful mutants to wreak havoc through instead. This was the case with the character known as Wolverine and the Phoenix Entity.

In a far-off future on Earth-14412, the merging of Phoenix Wolverine took place. With few powerful beings left alive, an aged Wolverine was chosen by the Phoenix Force to be its host. This upgraded Logan then roamed the cosmos, vanquishing celestial entities and eradicating them from existence, a prelude to his immense power. Subsequently, he formed alliances with deities and even the darkest form of the Phoenix, engaging in conflicts that no other incarnation of Wolverine could even imagine.

The ancient figure, Phoenix Elder, possesses capabilities akin to the Cosmic Phoenix Force – psychic powers, energy control, and heightened awareness. Yet, unlike the Phoenix Force, he retains his iconic retractable claws and regenerative abilities, putting him among the most formidable Wolverines ever known.
