On May 28th, The Pokemon Company revealed that they’ll be hosting a Pokemon Presents event on July 22nd, where they are expected to share more details about the upcoming game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
All of Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Confirmed Mega Evolutions
Ever since it became known that Pokemon Legends: Z-A would be set in Lumiose City, fans have been eagerly anticipating the potential reintroduction of Mega Evolutions, a feature that hasn’t been seen in the franchise since the release of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Since then, no new Mega Evolutions have been added, and the mechanic has not appeared in a mainline Pokemon game since Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Despite the introduction of mechanics like Z-Moves, Dynamaxing, and Terastallization, many fans are hoping for Mega Evolution’s comeback.
By February 2025, it was officially verified that Mega Evolution would make its comeback in the game Z-A. The main character was depicted in a Z-A trailer undergoing Mega Evolution using a Mega Ring, transforming a Lucario. Additionally, this trailer hinted at the reappearance of several Mega Evolutions.
- Mega Absol
- Mega Altaria
- Mega Ampharos
- Mega Charizard X
- Mega Charizard Y
- Mega Gardevoir
- Mega Gyarados
- Mega Kangaskhan
- Mega Sableye
In later previews, we saw the reappearance of several Mega Evolutions, including Mega Salamence, Mega Gallade, Mega Gengar, and Mega Alakazam. This hints that many, if not all, Mega Evolutions might make a comeback in Z-A. Nonetheless, it remains a mystery whether the Mega Evolution forms of Legendary Pokemon like Mega Rayquaza or the Primal forms of Kyogre and Groudon will also be featured in Z-A.
Potential Pokemon Legends: Z-A Summer Announcements
In the spring of 2025, various rumors and leaks have emerged, hinting at approximately 27 new Mega Evolutions set to debut in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. These alleged new Mega Evolutions include Pokemon that have undergone Mega Evolution from generations 1-6, like Mega Starmie, Mega Hawlucha, and Mega Excadrill. Additionally, there are rumors of brand-new Mega Evolutions from generations 7 and 8, such as Mega Drampa and Mega Falinks. However, it’s important to note that these Mega Evolutions have not been confirmed for Z-A. The list of supposed Mega Evolutions was first leaked by Centro LEAKS, an account with a history of accurate leaks in the past.
As a passionate Pokémon fan, it’s not hard to imagine that Game Freak might be cooking up some fresh Mega Evolutions for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” given it’s been eight years since we last saw Mega Evolution in a mainline game. Introducing new Mega Evolutions could breathe life into underutilized Pokémon, creating excitement around them. It’s also plausible that some of these new transformations will be revealed at the upcoming Pokémon Presents event, serving as a fantastic way to boost anticipation for “Z-A” and Generation 10. If these Mega Evolutions become part of future mainline games, it would certainly add fuel to the hype train!
Pokemon Presents Announcements Beyond Legends: Z-A
During the Pokemon Presents presentation, it’s likely that most of the focus will be on Pokemon Legends: Z-A and its aspects. However, there’s a chance that The Pokemon Company might reveal news not directly related to Z-A. Given the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2 in June and 2026 being the 30th anniversary of Pokemon, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company could possibly hint at information about the next mainline Pokemon games, which are likely to be launched in 2026. A brief teaser or some details about the Gen 10 games could potentially boost sales for Z-A and the Nintendo Switch 2, and generate excitement among fans about the numerous celebrations planned for Pokemon’s 30th anniversary.
