We’re getting our first glimpse of Yoshi and Bowser Jr. from the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie thanks to a surprising source: a supermarket! While a full trailer hasn’t been released yet – the movie is scheduled to come out on April 3rd, 2026 – this new appearance suggests one might be coming soon.
In 2022, Illumination and Universal Pictures released The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a huge success that became the highest-grossing film ever based on a video game. A sequel was quickly approved, and recently announced as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. While details about the story were scarce beyond its connection to the Super Mario Galaxy game, some new information has surprisingly emerged – from the packaging of slice-and-bake cookies!

News about a potential new Super Mario product came from a surprising place: the Tops Markets grocery store chain. They briefly listed “Pillsbury The Super Mario Galaxy Shape Sugar Cookie Dough” on their website (you can still find the out-of-stock listing here). The cookie dough packaging features Yoshi, shown emerging from a cracked sewer pipe – a scene reminiscent of the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This version of Yoshi has a slightly different look than the video game character, with smoother textures and less pronounced eyes.
The back of the item features a playful maze. It offers glimpses of the worlds Mario and Yoshi will visit, though it’s tricky to determine if they’re from the first Super Mario Galaxy game or the second. A key detail for fans is Bowser Jr.’s signature graffiti – since the character (voiced by Jack Black in the movie) hadn’t been announced yet, this strongly suggests he’ll be appearing.
There’s talk that a trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie might be released soon, potentially alongside the trailer for the movie Wicked: For Good. With the film coming out in April 2026, marketing efforts are starting, though perhaps a little earlier than Nintendo intended. We haven’t seen Yoshi or Bowser Jr. in any footage yet, but it’s exciting to hear that some new characters will be joining the adventure.
