The highly anticipated movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is now in theaters and is expected to be a huge success. Fans, especially those who grew up playing the games, have been waiting for Mario and Luigi’s return to the big screen, and this film delivers a bigger, more expansive experience than ever before. It features a wide range of beloved Mario characters, including Yoshi, who is sure to be a hit with audiences.
Yoshi is a major draw for the Mario Movie and has been featured prominently in its marketing. He’s also central to the movie’s merchandise, including what many consider the most exciting movie tie-in toy of the year: Hatchin’ Yoshi. This toy is likely to be hugely popular – not just for fans of the movie, but as one of the top toys of the year overall. It’s expected to be in high demand and potentially difficult to find, especially during the holidays.
The Hatchin’ Yoshi toy is simple: you gently tap the underside of the egg, and Yoshi makes sounds as he tries to hatch. Eventually, he pecks away at the shell and emerges!
Once Yoshi hatches, you’ll have a fun companion to hang out with while playing Mario Wonder on Switch 2, or just to keep you company. The design is really cute and perfectly captures the look of the original Yoshi character.
The main thing to understand about the Hatchin’ Yoshi is that the hatching process only happens once. Once the Yoshi breaks out of its egg, that’s it – it won’t hatch again. While you can place the Yoshi back inside the eggshell as a little house, the shell will naturally fall apart and can’t be fully reassembled.
If you’re excited about hatching a Yoshi, I suggest getting your camera ready to capture the special moment, or at least having everyone you want to witness it nearby. Once you ring the bell, there’s no taking it back unless you purchase another one.
The fun of the Hatchin’ Yoshi comes from its unpredictable nature, and I love that about it. If you could see how it was put together, or knew exactly how it would hatch, it wouldn’t feel as special. The fact that each Yoshi hatches a little differently is what makes it unique and the experience so much more exciting.
After the Hatchin’ Yoshi hatches, it transforms into a playful toy that responds to touch with lights and sounds. When it ‘hatches,’ the goal is to bond with your new Yoshi, which is what makes it a lasting and enjoyable toy. It’s adorable and makes lots of cheerful sounds!

I’ve been wondering about the voice of Yoshi in the new movie, and it really sounds like Donald Glover! It’s hard to tell if it is him, especially in a role where he’s supposed to be making Yoshi sounds, but honestly, it just feels like the Yoshi we all know and love from the games. He does such a good job, you don’t even really hear Donald Glover – just Yoshi!
Like I said, the Hatchin’ Yoshi toy is selling out quickly, so if you see it for $50, grab it fast! Yoshi is a standout character in the movie, and I wouldn’t be surprised if many people – kids and adults alike – want to own one after seeing the film. I think the Hatchin’ Yoshi, and a lot of the toys from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, will be very popular this summer and beyond, just like the Minecraft toys were last year.
