  • Solo Leveling Season 2 introduces new characters with impactful combat abilities, like Kim Chul and Son Kihoon.
  • Iron, the shadow soldier, undergoes a significant personality change and becomes a powerful asset to Jin-woo.
  • Ant King emerges as the most formidable monster, possessing diverse offensive capabilities and unmatched strength in Solo Leveling.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement for the second season of Solo Leveling! It elevates everything great from the first to an entirely new level. This translates into even more thrilling action scenes, a vast array of extraordinary monsters and dungeons, and of course, some captivating fresh characters joining the fray!

In contrast to the initial season, the secondary characters have more opportunities to grab the limelight during Season 2, mirroring real-life scenarios where some individuals are more captivating than others. Here’s a list of noteworthy newcomers from Solo Leveling Season 2, arranged according to their battle prowess. A few of these characters had brief appearances in the first season as shadows or flashbacks, but they truly shine in the second season.

10. Kim Chul

The Arrogant A-Rank Tanker

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Chikahiro Kobayashi
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 1

In the second season, I, Kim Chul, make an appearance in just the first two episodes, but let me tell you, my impact is one that lingers! Regrettably, it wasn’t my triumphs that caught people’s attention, but rather my questionable leadership skills and less-than-pleasant demeanor.

Despite Kim Chul’s momentary weakness, being an A-Rank hunter indicates he possesses genuine strength. As a tank, he can handle the fierce assaults of formidable beasts with ease. Unfortunately, his misfortune brought him to the Red Gate dungeon, where the monsters are as potent as A-Rank hunters themselves.

9. Iron

The Most Animated Shadows

  • Race: Shadows
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Chikahiro Kobayashi
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 2

Following Kim Chul’s valiant battle against Baruka and his untimely demise, I observed Sung Jin-woo breathe new life into him, transforming him into a Shadow soldier and bestowing upon him the moniker of “Iron.” Strikingly, as Iron, Kim Chul underwent a profound transformation in character. He morphed into a jovial simpleton who would go to great lengths to garner approval from Jin-woo. For instance, he voluntarily hauled the carcass of Baran’s wyvern without being asked, understanding that Jin-woo would subsequently awaken it as a shadow and receive recognition for his effort. Undeniably, this act earned him praise.

In a different form, Iron is significantly more robust than when he was known as Kim Chul. This transformation is due to the fact that he now shares abilities with Sung Jin-woo’s mastery, allowing him to upgrade, much like his mentor. Consequently, his defensive prowess as a tank increases with each encounter, making him more formidable, and his destructive attacks grow stronger too.

8. Son Kihoon

The Rookie Leader

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Takaaki Torashima
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 5

Kihoon serves as the head of Strike Team B within South Korea’s largest guild, the Hunters Guild. Despite being considered the second-tier team, it boasts a majority of B- and A-Rank hunters. As a compassionate leader, Kihoon values the wellbeing of his team members, but he often faces formidable opponents like the High Orcs and their potent Shamans.

In my world as an elite A-Rank hunter, I stand tall among the best in my guild, outshining the skills of Kim Chul. As a stalwart tanker, I’m like a rock that the relentless charges of the Dungeon Jackals cannot crack or crumble. To top it off, my exceptional swordplay adds another layer to my defense, making me an unstoppable force in the world of hunters.

7. Baruka

The Overconfident Ice Elf

  • Race: Ice Elf
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Ryuuji Satou
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 1

Baruka serves as the chief among the Ice Elves residing within the Red Gate fortress. Much like his fellow elves, Baruka exudes an air of haughtiness and often looks down upon other species. He is the initial monster capable of carrying on a conversation with Jin-woo, and it is he who discloses that not only monsters but also magic beasts are subject to the system’s control and are compelled to assault humans.

In comparison to other monsters in the series, Baruka distinguishes himself significantly due to those facts alone. However, what truly sets him apart is his hidden, destructive power, as well as a fighting style reminiscent of Jin-woo’s. To defeat this powerful Ice Elf leader, the hero must join forces with Igris and the recently reborn Iron. This demonstrates just how formidable Baruka truly is.

6. Kargalgan

The Cruel Orc Shaman

  • Race: High Orc
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Kenta Miyake
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 5

Kargalgan, head of the High Orcs, surprises Son Kihoon’s squad in an ambush. Baruka briefly explains that creatures within the dungeon are compelled to prey on humans. While this applies to Kargalgan and other high orcs, there is an additional factor driving his hunt for humans: he does it for amusement. Kargalgan enjoys manipulating the lives of his victims, a trait that sets him apart from other bosses in the dungeon due to his cruel nature.

Instead of other orcs and high orcs who predominantly utilize their fearsome physical strength, Kargalgan stands out due to his exceptional magical abilities. He excels in defense with a magical shield, offensively unleashes fire like a dragon, and even transforms into a colossus – there’s no match for Kargalgan’s skill in magic.

5. Esil Radiru

The Cowardly Demon Knight

  • Race: Demon
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Riho Sugiyama
  • First Appearance:Season 2, Episode 8

In the Demon Realm, most demons behave like untamed animals driven by their raw instincts. However, Demon Nobles are an exception, as they possess human-like intellect and communication skills. Esil Radiru , who belongs to the lowest-ranking nobles in this realm, is surprisingly timid and quickly retreats when confronted with Jin-woo’s overwhelming power.

Though Esil’s character differs significantly from the usual harsh and arrogant demons, her true strength shines through. In fact, she stands out as the strongest among her demon kin. Even Jin-woo admits that her power matches that of a lower S-Rank in the human realm.

4. Min Byung-Gyu

The Ultimate S-Rank Healer

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Junya Enoki
  • First Appearance:Season 2, Episode 9

I find myself in awe among the characters of “Solo Leveling,” for I’ve come to know Min Byung-Gyu, one of the rare Healers gracing the series. Yet, what sets him apart is not just his presence, but his exceptional skill – he alone holds the S-Rank designation as a Healer within this captivating world. A gentle soul who bears the scars of past trauma from the tragic loss of a dear friend during the Jeju Raid, he displays immense courage by joining the raid team to offer aid to his comrades.

When it comes to raw power, Min Byung-Gyu is roughly equivalent to an A-Rank Hunter. Yet, when it comes to support magic, there’s simply no one else quite like him. Byung-Gu excels at tailoring buffs to fit his teammates’ requirements – for instance, he can boost Baek Yoonho’s attacks or enhance Choi Jong-In’s spells. Moreover, he possesses the ability to perform a powerful healing spell, even on individuals teetering on the edge of life and death.

3. Goto Ryuji

The Strongest S-Rank Hunter In Japan

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Satoshi Mikami
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 8

Ryuji leads Japan’s largest guild and is the nation’s strongest S-Rank hunter, but these titles aren’t enough for him as there’s one more title he hasn’t earned: The National Level Hunter. In order to achieve this, he’s disguised his intentions and traveled to Korea, using a pretense of offering assistance while actually furthering his own devious plan.

Without a doubt, Goto Ryuji stands at the pinnacle in Japan, unquestionably strong. It’s not just hyperbole to describe him as one of the world’s greatest swordsmasters. Even Jin-woo acknowledges that Goto outmatches his fellow S-Rank peers in Japan, and may even surpass most Korean S-Ranks in power.

2. Sung Il-Hwan

Sung Jin-Woo’s Mysterious Father

  • Race: Human
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Rikiya Koyama
  • First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 3

Sung Il-Hwan is identified as the father of the top S-Rank hunter globally, Sung Jin-woo. Remarkably absent for several decades, he resurfaces in Episode 3 of Season 2. Notably, his reappearance takes place within an A-rank dungeon situated on American soil.

Back then, it wasn’t certain how formidable Sung Il-Hwan was when he vanished, but upon his return, he transformed into one of the world’s mightiest S-Rank hunters. Notably, Hwang Dong-Soo, a Korean S-Rank living in the U.S., finds himself powerless against him.

1. The Ant King

The Most Powerful Monster In Solo Leveling

  • Race: Insect
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Akira Ishida
  • First Appearance: Episode 10

The Ant Monarch serves as the hidden adversary in the Jeju raid. Compared to his fellow ants, his humanoid form is somewhat diminutive, but he possesses a remarkable strength. However, it’s his appearance that sets him apart – he appears far more intimidating than any other ant, even the queen herself.

Typically, creatures or humans, in their unique ways, exhibit a distinct skillset that makes them formidable offensively – be it sharp teeth, tough skin, immense strength, martial arts skills, and more. However, this rule doesn’t apply to the Ant King at all. Everything about him serves just one purpose: to eliminate his adversaries.

He boasts an exceptionally resilient exterior armor that can repel swords and resist intense blunt impacts. His claws are incredibly sharp and capable of slicing through anything, his jaw-like structures are strong enough to chew through whatever they grasp, he moves at a pace that leaves S-Rank hunters stunned, and his strength is almost unbelievable, capable of shattering boulders with a single strike. Every aspect of him is engineered for optimal combat. As such, the Ant King stands as the mightiest monster and most impressive character introduced in Solo Leveling Season 2.
