As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say the gaming landscape of 2024 is shaping up to be nothing short of spectacular! From the grand strategy game Gilded Destiny that promises to give Victoria 3 a run for its money, to Beyond These Stars where we build cities on the back of a space-faring whale – these upcoming releases have me absolutely thrilled.
2024 is shaping up to be an exhilarating year in the gaming industry as developers prepare to unveil some of the most highly anticipated titles. A blend of fresh ideas through new IPs and long-overdue sequels, the second half of 2024 is expected to offer unparalleled enjoyment across all platforms. If you’re into action RTS, strategic turn-based games, city builders, divine God games, or classic wargames, there’ll be something captivating coming up for every gaming enthusiast. This article will delve into the most eagerly awaited games yet to debut this year, discussing their unique features and why they’re creating such a stir among gamers around the globe.
20 – Gilded Destiny
I’ve noticed ads for Gilded Destiny popping up on YouTube quite frequently, but I seldom come across discussions about it, even though its release is scheduled for 2024. Gilded Destiny is a strategic game that aspires to challenge Victoria 3 and is set in the period of rapid change during the Industrial Revolution. In this immersive simulation, you’ll witness and participate in the social, industrial, economic, and military transformations of the 19th century. It’s a hexagonal game with a primary map comprising over a million hexagons, each one meticulously designed to represent its unique geographical location on Earth.
I’m really enthusiastic about the concept of this game, but I want to fully understand the mechanics of its combat element before forming a definitive opinion about it.
19- Beyond These Stars
In the game “Beyond These Stars,” you’re embarking on a cosmic journey alongside a spacefaring whale, serving as your home and transportation. Your mission is to construct cities on its back, navigating the usual challenges of expanding your city, ensuring the happiness of your inhabitants, exploring new terrains for resources, maintaining a balanced economy, and monitoring the health of the colossal creature that supports your civilization. Along the way, you’ll encounter various alien civilizations and face unique challenges that a traditional earth-bound city builder won’t provide.
It’s an interesting premise, and hopefully, the universe-fairing mechanics are enough to keep me engaged.
18 – Memoriapolis
The game titled “Memoriapolis” will debut on the 29th of August. In this role-playing scenario, you’ll assume the position of a city leader, guiding your city throughout various eras spanning approximately 2,500 years, from ancient times to the Age of Enlightenment. Each epoch will introduce fresh gameplay elements and associated challenges for you to conquer. Your responsibilities include resource management, navigating historical events, and transforming your city into a renowned global landmark.
17 – Age of Mithology: Retold
Among my all-time favorite games lies Age of Mythology, a cherished relic from my childhood that I dust off at least once a year for a few missions and to savor one of the best gaming soundtracks ever produced (yippee ki-yay, boom, yippee ki-yay!). The disappointing comments about subpar performance on Steam have been disheartening, but the feedback from those who participated in the closed betas has been overwhelmingly positive.
Age of Mythology: Retold comes out on September 4th and will cost $29.99 | 29,99€ | £22.49.
