In the world of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, I encountered Irina early on in New Los Angeles, but she didn’t officially join my squad until I had finished the initial three chapters of the storyline. Despite this delayed introduction, Irina proved to be a valuable member of my party and one that I kept by my side for most of my adventure.
In the game Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, there are numerous characters in your party, yet only a few excel in support abilities and skills. Character Irina, however, boasts an assortment of helpful support arts. Consequently, it’s more advantageous to utilize her for boosting/healing purposes rather than combat.

Arts, Skills, and Gear
In the third chapter of the game, titled “Builders of a Legacy,” Irina is among the three characters you’ll gain automatically upon completion. Among Gwin and Doug, she stands out as the most proficient. It’s highly recommended to include her in your team as soon as possible. Irina excels particularly well in a support role for combat-focused party classes (classes with minimal or no support/green arts). Here are some suggestions for her art setup, skills, and equipment:
1. Art Setup: Prioritize increasing her Support stat to maximize her healing and buffing abilities.
2. Skills: Focus on acquiring skills that enhance party members’ defense, speed, and overall combat effectiveness.
3. Gear: Equip Irina with armor and accessories that boost her Support capabilities, allowing her to heal and support her teammates more effectively in battle.
Recommended Arts Setup for Irina
Irina is a Psycorruptor+ character who can reach Rank 20. Beyond this, she possesses her unique skill called “Smooth Recovery.” Setting aside support and aura abilities, Irina mainly learns a few offensive skills, mostly ranged ones. However, it’s advisable to use Irina more for healing and buffing rather than combat. If you choose to enhance her skills, prioritize those such as Smooth Recovery or “Medic Free.
You’ll observe that Irina has mastered skills such as Brainjack and Servant Sacrifice. However, these abilities are not very useful when confronting Tyrants or bosses at higher levels.
You can equip eight arts per character. For Irina, it should look something like this:
Art | Effect | TP Usage |
---|---|---|
Last Stand | Boosts allies’ TP. | 1000 |
Repair | Removes debuffs + Restores HP. | — |
Smooth Recovery | Restores HP + Grants Evasion Up. * This is Irina’s signature art and can’t be learned by anyone else except the main character. | — |
Absorber Skin | Grants Barrier. | — |
Energy Source | Boosts TP + Boosts potential. | 1000 |
Medic Free | Boosts debuff resistance + Auto-revives on incapacitation. | 1000 |
Quick Cannon | Deals thermal damage + Inflicts Blaze + Boosts damage in melee combos. | — |
Flash Grenade | Deals electric damage + Inflicts Blackout | — |
Best Skills for Irina in Xenoblade Chronicles X

In simpler terms, Irina possesses three abilities that aid in her role as a support character, while the remaining ones are meant for debuffing opponents. She has access to just four skill slots in total. Given that you’ll primarily use Irina as a support character, it would be beneficial to prioritize upgrading only three of her skills. On the other hand, if you plan to use her for debuffs, then “King’s Decree” is suggested when paired with the “Brainjack” art. Similar to arts, skills can also be upgraded.
Art | Effect |
---|---|
Inner Search | Boosts potential. |
High Tension | Boosts maximum TP. |
Healing Touch | Boosts the HP recovery of party members you revive. |
[Any] | [Depends on assigned skill.] |
Best Gear for Irina in Xenoblade Chronicles X

As Irina continues to maintain the party’s vitality with healing and support abilities, it’s important to note that she has weak defense and low health. This makes her a character vulnerable to strong attacks from enemies. To counteract this, you should consider equipping Irina with armor that enhances her Maximum Health or Evasion. For instance, the Worn Forza Norak is a body armor piece that comes with a Max HP Boost VIII perk.
Regarding weapons for Irina, it would be beneficial to prioritize long-range weaponry. Opt for weapons with the TP Boost (Ranged) enhancement instead. Irina is equipped with the following items:
- Knives
- Assault Rifles
Despite donning defense/HP-boosting equipment, it may still fall short for Irina. To ensure her survival, you should definitely equip the “Medic Free” aura art. This ability grants Irina resistance to debuffs and allows her to be revived once in each battle when she is incapacitated.

How Useful is Irina?

If you’re not entirely sure about handling AI battles, it might be wiser to let Irina handle them instead. Just ensure that Irina has the appropriate arts and abilities at her disposal. To maximize Irina’s potential in battle, try to maintain her Trust Points (TP) by using strategies such as Last Stand and Medic Free. If you’re not controlling Irina directly, set her command to conserve TP when it gets low.
To play effectively as Irina, try to minimize drawing enemy attention. Primarily use your long-range weapon and employ ranged abilities during Soul Voices. If you need to accumulate TP, switch to your melee weapon if your ranged one doesn’t have the “Ranged: TP Up” attribute. Keep in mind that melee weapons generate TP at a faster rate. Instead of using melee arts (like the Assault Hammer), let Irina perform basic attacks instead.
