A Look into Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3 – “The Hollow of His Hand”
In this episode of Daredevil: Born Again, we find ourselves picking up some time after the events of the previous installment. Matt Murdock has managed to protect a crucial figure in his current case, Hector Ayala (also known as The White Tiger), by fending off attacking officers. Now he’s grappling with the challenge of devising a defense strategy against a seemingly hostile system that appears to be working directly against him.
This is so much so that one of the officers he subdued doesn’t even flinch when confronting Matt in the courthouse bathroom, despite being aware of Murdock’s fighting prowess and not yet realizing that his defense attorney is none other than Daredevil.
During this time, Wilson Fisk struggles to balance ruling New York City with maintaining his powerful criminal organization. Matters are complicated by opposition from his wife, Vanessa. Their relationship, which is also a partnership in crime, is so tumultuous that they’re both attending counseling sessions with the same therapist who happens to be dating Matt Murdock. The situation grows increasingly difficult, causing conflicts among the gangs under Fisk’s control to erupt into deadly gunfights. This turbulence lays the groundwork for the rest of “The Hollow of His Hand” episode.

The opening scene of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ finds our protagonists grappling with tough times as the trial of Hector Ayala commences. Matt Murdock and his associates are confident they can safeguard their key witness, Nicky Torres, during this critical period.
In a subway station, Torres was being brutally handled by two police officers when Ayala intervened. Unfortunately, during a swift maneuver, Ayala inadvertently propelled one of the officers towards an incoming train, resulting in his death. As Episode 2 concludes, Murdock discovers that these very same cops were planning to eliminate Torres. In an attempt to save him, Murdock acts quickly and sends Torres to a secure location where Cherry is providing protection.

In a disappointing turn of events during the trial, it seems that when Torres took the stand, his fear of the police overpowered him. Despite being shielded by the defense, he testified that he wasn’t at the station, thereby undermining Ayala’s case. Suspecting something suspicious with the police, Murdock decided to expose the truth in court, revealing that his client was none other than the White Tiger.
The Legend Of The White Tiger
- Hector was originally a CPA and a member of the armed forces, until he came across an amulet of power that gave him superhuman speed and strength.
- Ayala has spent the last few years saving people in New York City.
- His desire to help people is what has him on trial for murder in the first place.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the narrative twist when Ayala’s true identity as a vigilante was revealed. From that moment on, Matt Murdock’s case took an unexpected turn, focusing on the remarkable fact that his client, the White Tiger, has always been a force for good in life. One by one, I heard testimonies from individuals who shared heartwarming stories about how this enigmatic figure had saved them, making me root even more fiercely for the underdog hero.
How Does Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3 End?
Do The Good Guys Ever Get To Win?

In a turn of events, Matt Murdock’s method proves effective, leading to Ayala being acquitted on all charges. For a fleeting instant, it appears justice prevails. Yet, Wilson Fisk, presumably displeased due to the reduced number of masked vigilantes patrolling the city streets, summons BB Uhrich to his office for an interview. There, he unequivocally expresses his disagreement with the not-guilty verdict.
In this scene, while discussing the impropriety of masked vigilantes, Ayala resumes his role as the White Tiger, disregarding Matt Murdock’s advice from earlier in the episode about retiring his superhero persona due to his identity being revealed. However, his pursuit of wrongdoers is brief.
Just as a person seems poised to rush towards someone calling for aid, another individual emerges from the darkness and fatally wounds Ayala with a gunshot to the head.
In response to someone calling for aid, it appears the man was ready to intervene, but instead, another figure emerges from the darkness and fatally shoots Ayala in the head. As this person departs, their coat reveals a Punisher emblem on their shirt, suggesting that this could be the real Punisher or perhaps a police officer adopting his role, though the identity remains uncertain.
Wilson Fisk’s Reach Is Still Quite Long
The speech, contrasted with the murder of Hectory Ayala, clearly implied that Wilson Fisk was responsible for the shooting. It’s plausible that he may have orchestrated the entire police force corruption, or perhaps even vigilante activities symbolized by the Punisher.
The way this narrative progresses appears crucial for the remainder of the season, hinting strongly that Wilson Fisk holds greater power in the city’s shadows than he’s revealing to Vanessa.
