The Wild Robot: One 2024’s Best Movies Arrives On Streaming Soon

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has been following the animated film industry for over two decades, I can confidently say that if you appreciate robots, animation, or just good films in general, you absolutely must check out “The Wild Robot” when it debuts on Peacock on January 24th. Having witnessed the meteoric rise of this movie to become one of the top earners of 2024 with a staggering $143M domestic box office and near-perfect Rotten Tomato scores, I can vouch for its quality.

Having grown up watching DreamWorks’ early hits like “Antz” and “The Prince of Egypt,” I can attest to their impressive track record in animation since 1998. If you’ve enjoyed any of the iconic DreamWorks projects such as “Shrek,” “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda,” or “How to Train Your Dragon,” then trust me, “The Wild Robot” will not disappoint.

What sets “The Wild Robot” apart from other animated films is its unique storyline about a robot, Rozzum Unit 7134, that befriends the inhabitants of a humanless island. The emotional journey it takes you on will leave you laughing, crying, and with a lasting impression.

With Chris Sanders, director of “How to Train Your Dragon” and several other beloved animated films, at the helm for the sequel, I have high hopes that we’ll be seeing more of Rozzum and her island friends in the future. So mark your calendars for January 24th, folks – it’s going to be a wild ride!

Oh, and one last thing: If you’re still on the fence about watching “The Wild Robot,” just remember that even a robot can learn to love – and sometimes, that’s all the proof you need. 😉

If you like robots, animation, and/or good movies, then I have a recommendation for you.

On January 24th, “The Wild Robot” will premiere on the streaming platform Peacock. This is a must-watch as “Robot,” surprisingly, turned out to be one of the top-grossing movies in 2024.

2019 saw the film’s domestic box office revenue rank as the 16th highest, earning an impressive $143 million. The movie received remarkable acclaim, with critics giving it a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences were equally impressed, awarding it a near-perfect score of 98%.

What Is The Wild Robot About, And Why Should You Watch It?

The narrative unfolds around Rozzum Unit 7134, a robot, who accidentally ends up on an island devoid of humans yet brimming with animal life. Over time, Roz integrates into this vibrant community. While I won’t delve into the twists and turns, be prepared for moments that will make you chuckle, tear up, and enjoy every second.

Even though DreamWorks Animation doesn’t hold the same level of acclaim as Disney or Pixar, they have consistently proven themselves as a formidable force in animation since their launch in 1998, with hits like Antz and The Prince of Egypt.

Check out this lineup of upcoming DreamWorks movies that might prompt you to say, “I need to catch up on The Wild Robot!” or something along those lines.

  • All the Shrek movies
  • Madagascar
  • Kung Fu Panda

If you’ve liked any of those movies, it’s worth giving Wild Robot a shot.

Can We Expect More Wild Robot Movies?

Initially, “The Wild Robot” was a book penned by Peter Brown, published in the year 2016. Subsequently, Brown added two sequels to the story: “The Wild Robot Breaks Free” in 2018 and “The Wild Robot Stands Guard” in 2023.

By October 2024, it was made official by the film’s director, Chris Sanders, to Deadline, that a sequel was being developed.

100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.

Prior to “The Wild Robot”, Sanders was known for directing films like “How to Train Your Dragon”, “The Croods” and Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch”. He also contributed significantly to story development for the original animated Disney classics, such as “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, and “The Lion King”. In the realm of animation, Sanders is widely revered as a true legend.

Having a director like Sanders on board for the sequel is an encouraging indication of its potential quality, given his impressive track record. At this moment, however, we don’t have a specific release date set for it.
