As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has been following the animated film industry for over two decades, I can confidently say that if you appreciate robots, animation, or just good films in general, you absolutely must check out “The Wild Robot” when it debuts on Peacock on January 24th. Having witnessed the meteoric rise of this movie to become one of the top earners of 2024 with a staggering $143M domestic box office and near-perfect Rotten Tomato scores, I can vouch for its quality.

Having grown up watching DreamWorks’ early hits like “Antz” and “The Prince of Egypt,” I can attest to their impressive track record in animation since 1998. If you’ve enjoyed any of the iconic DreamWorks projects such as “Shrek,” “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda,” or “How to Train Your Dragon,” then trust me, “The Wild Robot” will not disappoint.

By October 2024, it was made official by the film’s director, Chris Sanders, to Deadline, that a sequel was being developed.

100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.

Prior to “The Wild Robot”, Sanders was known for directing films like “How to Train Your Dragon”, “The Croods” and Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch”. He also contributed significantly to story development for the original animated Disney classics, such as “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, and “The Lion King”. In the realm of animation, Sanders is widely revered as a true legend.

Having a director like Sanders on board for the sequel is an encouraging indication of its potential quality, given his impressive track record. At this moment, however, we don’t have a specific release date set for it.
