As a seasoned Witcher 3 player with countless hours spent traversing the vast and enchanting world of The Continent, I can confidently say that the recent next-gen update has breathed new life into this timeless masterpiece. One aspect that has always intrigued me is the dyeing mechanic, a feature that, while seemingly simple, has left many players scratching their heads in confusion.
On December 14, 2022, The Witcher 3 reverted to its top form with the launch of its next-gen update. This update brought about repairs, visual enhancements, user convenience adjustments, and additional perks.
Players have grown accustomed to the array of features available in The Witcher 3, but there are many hidden aspects they may be unaware of. One such feature is the dyeing mechanic in the third installment of The Witcher series, which leaves some players puzzled about how it works. This guide will walk you through everything from acquiring dyes to applying them to your armor.
Types Of Dyes In The Witcher 3
Obtaining dyes can prove challenging as it involves accomplishing quests, searching for loot, and vanquishing foes. Yet, you can synthesize them through alchemy. But remember, unique blueprints are essential for each hue if you wish to dye your armor.
In order to color your armor, you need to have purchased the Blood and Wine expansion pack. You’ll be able to access the dye patterns once you reach the region of Toussaint in the game.
Luckily, you can usually purchase armor dyes from a merchant situated to the south of Beauclair Port, close to the lake. This vendor offers dyes and dye removers, however, their stock is rather scarce and they come at a higher price tag.
The following dye diagrams can be obtained in Toussaint from the following locations:
- The Yellow Dye formula can be obtained from the cemetery in Beauclair. The formula can be looted from a crypt west of the Metinna Gate in a narrow corridor that follows the main chamber.
- The Black Dye formula can be found in the ruins of a castle northwest of Toussaint.
- The Turquoise Dye formula is located in a small sack behind a white tent in a camp northwest of the Arthach Palace Ruins.
- The G reen Dye formula is located in a chest in the ruins of Fort Ussar.
- The Red Dye formula is located in a strongbox on a table in a cave. The cave can be found northeast of Dun Tynne Crossroads after following the road east and crossing a stream.
- The Orange Dye formula can be found in a wooden cart in a ditch before a bridge east of Coronata Vineyard.
- The Gray Dye formula can be obtained during the contract: A Knightâs Tale. The contract can be initiated from the notice board located in Castel Ravello Vineyard.
- The White Dye formula is located in a strongbox in Mont Crane Castle.
- The Brown Dye formula is located in a monster den northwest of Fox Hollow.
- The Pink Dye formula is located in a secret room in a Hansa Stronghold northeast of Beauclair in Mont Crane Castle.
- The Purple Dye formula can be obtained during The Tufo Monster contract. The contract can be initiated from the notice board located in Flovive.
- The Blue Dye formula is located in a wooden chest under a boat in water southwest of the Belgaard Vineyard.
How To Dye Armor In Witcher 3
Once players obtain an armor dye, they have the ability to alter the hue of Witcher armor directly from their inventory. Simply pick your preferred dye and decide on the armor piece you want to color. Each dye can only be used once, but if you wish to restore the original color, buy a dye remover from a merchant who specializes in such items.
Armor dye can only be applied to Witcher gear and not just any armor.
How to Remove Dye from Armor in Witcher 3
Initially, you can see how any color dye you select will appear on your armor. However, once applied, you might decide you don’t like it anymore. In such cases, you can eliminate the dye using a Dye Remover tool.
1. In some instances, you might stumble upon Dye Remover as an unexpected find, or you can purchase it directly from the Dye Vendor at Beauclair Harbor. The advantage is that you can utilize Dye Remover much like applying dyes yourself. Once applied, your armor will revert to its original appearance. This handy feature is a fantastic addition, empowering players to reverse any color choices they may regret when experimenting with various dyes.
After using a dye and washing it off, you can’t reuse it. You’ll have to either remake it, find it somewhere else, or purchase a new one if you want to use the same dye again.
