The Witcher 4 revealed, will star Ciri and be in Unreal Engine 5

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the reveal of The Witcher 4 with Ciri as the protagonist has me absolutely thrilled! Having played through every installment of this epic series, I’ve grown to appreciate and care for these characters deeply. Seeing Ciri take center stage, ready to unravel her own tale, is a testament to how much CD Projekt RED values their fans and the universe they’ve created.

CD Projekt RED has officially revealed The Witcher 4, with the main character being none other than Ciri from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as shown in a fresh 6-minute video.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Sebastian Kalemba, our Game Director, has announced the commencement of a fresh Witcher tale, centering on Ciri! It’s been a long-held dream for us to make Ciri the central figure in The Witcher IV. The idea felt organic and right, and we firmly believe that Ciri deserves this role. In this upcoming game, we aim to delve into the essence of what it takes to be a witcher, by journeying with Ciri on her Path. This trailer offers a glimpse into both the depth of her story and the grim, authentic world of The Witcher.

Check out the trailer, below:

In the nearly six-minute long preview, we meet Ciri, Geralt of Rivia’s adopted daughter, who embarks on a witcher mission in a distant village that has long been tormented by a dreadful beast demanding human victims. Presented as a standalone Witcher tale, this trailer highlights Ciri’s fresh skills and equipment, such as a chain and advanced magical prowess.

The trailer centers around Ciri’s role as an outsider within the village. As they bid farewell to one of their own, a young girl destined for a ritualistic sacrifice, Ciri decides to step in. With the intention of defeating the beast and rescuing the girl simultaneously, Ciri encounters resistance from the villagers due to their deeply ingrained biases and superstitions. This confrontation forces her to grapple with a harsh truth taught by the witchers: that monsters can take on various shapes.

The trailer is pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. Powered by the same tech that The Witcher IV is built on, using assets and models from the game itself, it aims to provide players with a cinematic look at the kind of experience the game is aspiring to provide. The trailer was created through a close collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and Platige Image, who are no strangers to The Witcher universe, having been responsible for intro cinematics in the previous instalments of the series.

The main key facts about the game, are as follows: “The Witcher IV is a single-player, open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED. At the start of a new saga, players take on the role of Ciri and embark on a journey through a brutal dark fantasy world. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, it aims to be the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date.”
