There Might Not Be Another Last of Us Game, Druckmann Suggests Rather Ambiguously

In a conversation with Variety, Neil Druckmann hinted that the story for The Last of Us may have reached its conclusion. He stated, “You shouldn’t count on there being more The Last of Us.” This comment leaves room for interpretation as it is not explicitly clear if he means there will be no additional games in the series at this moment or if The Last of Us Part III might be the last game produced within the franchise.

Starting in April, we can expect the second installment of the critically acclaimed HBO series to release, over two years since the debut of its first season.

‘This Could Be It’

Since its initial release in 2013, The Last of Us has undergone multiple remasters and re-releases over 743 times across various platforms and generations. In the year 2020, the sequel to this game, fittingly titled The Last of Us Part II, was unveiled. Despite stirring up much controversy, it remained an exceptional game that left audiences around the globe in awe.

On April 3, Part II’s newest iteration, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, will be released on PC.

Neil Druckmann recently chatted with Variety about the upcoming second season of the Emmy Award-winning series. He had a discussion with Craig Mazin, who played a crucial role in creating one of the most outstanding live-action adaptations ever seen in the gaming world.

As a dedicated gaming enthusiast, I’ve always kept my eyes peeled for any news about The Last of Us Part III. Recently, during an interview, Neil Druckmann himself addressed the question that’s been buzzing around for quite some time now. When asked directly about the game’s potential appearance, he didn’t exactly confirm it but did hint at something intriguing: “I have a story in my head for The Last of Us Part III, but whether it will ever see the light of day is another question.” So, while we don’t have a concrete answer yet, this statement certainly fuels our anticipation!

I was waiting for this question.

It seems like all I can suggest is that you might not want to count on another season of ‘The Last of Us’. It could very well be its final installment.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m left guessing a bit. It seems like there might not be any further games beyond the third one, but then again, it could also mean that we’ve reached the end of this captivating two-game series, with no plans for more installments in the future.

In December 2023, plans for an online multiplayer game within the universe of “The Last of Us” were scrapped, but in 2024, hints about a new installment in the series were given. This was prior to Naughty Dog unveiling Intergalactic, an entirely unexpected new project, at The Game Awards in 2024.

Is your opinion that The Last of Us should conclude with Part II? It’s not a hidden fact that the team intends to extend the television series and span the second game over two seasons, so we’ve got plenty of The Last of Us content coming up for some time. But if you had a choice, would you prefer to play it out or watch it unfold on screen?

Let me know in the comments.
