‘There Will Be No Z2 Steam Deck’: Valve Denies Recent Steam Deck 2 Rumours

Lately, whispers have been spreading across the web about a possible Steam Deck 2, allegedly running on AMD’s Ryzen Z2 processor. The initial spark for these rumours can be traced back to VideoCardz.com, where they published slides containing technical specifications for the new processors. Among these slides, there was one that hinted at Valve’s Steam Deck as a potential recipient of the Z2 processor.

Contrarily, a member from Valve Corporation has used social platforms to affirmatively state that there is currently no Z2 Steam Deck and that none will be produced in the future, thereby dispelling any confusion on this matter.

For Now?

On Bluesky, Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais wrote:

It appears there won’t be a Z2 Steam Deck, but the presentation seems to suggest that the series encompasses similar types of devices, rather than unveiling a specific product.

The presentation slide under discussion also highlighted the Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally devices, both of which currently use AMD’s Z1 processor lineup. It might seem plausible to think that these upcoming devices could incorporate the Ryzen Z2, similar to the Steam Deck. However, it turns out that this isn’t the scenario unfolding.

According to an article by The Verge, AMD didn’t provide a clear answer about whether the Z2 would be included in a potential Steam Deck 2 device, nor did they specify any specific brand (such as Lenovo, Asus, MSI) that might host this new hardware. These discussions occurred during CES, a major event known for tech announcements.

It’s looking likely that a Steam Deck 2 is in development – Valve has hinted at its production as part of the typical lifecycle for gaming devices. However, we’re still unsure about what kind of hardware it will utilize. At this moment, there’s no indication that it will be equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z2 processor.
