Thieves Smash Through Wall To Steal Pokemon Cards

A collectibles shop was recently burglarized when thieves broke through a wall and stole Pokémon trading cards. This incident is part of a growing pattern of thefts targeting stores that sell Pokémon cards.

Pokémon cards are incredibly popular right now, and some rare cards can be worth a lot of money—hundreds or even thousands of dollars. While comic and collectible shops often sell them because they attract customers, this also makes them a target for theft. Recently, Pokémon cards have been frequently stolen, probably because they’re valuable, easy to carry, and impossible to trace since they don’t have serial numbers or unique identifiers.

Another Store Faces Theft of Pokemon Cards

Early on the morning of February 18th, DOWE Collectibles, a card store in Anaheim, California, was burglarized, and approximately $180,000 worth of Pokemon cards were stolen. The thieves didn’t force open the front door; instead, they broke into the neighboring insurance office and used a sledgehammer to smash through the shared wall. Several people then entered the store, grabbed valuable cards from the displays, and escaped in a dark-colored vehicle.

There have been instances of retailers alerting the police when someone attempted to sell cards known to be recently stolen from another store. While this cooperation is commendable, stolen cards are often difficult to recover. Once taken, thieves can easily sell them online or in person. Because the cards lack unique identification like serial numbers, unsuspecting fans might unknowingly purchase stolen goods.
