Thieves Steal Thousands of Dollars Worth of Labubus

The proprietors of a second-hand store located in La Puente, California, are seeking assistance in identifying four suspected individuals who allegedly burglarized the shop and made off with around $30,000 worth of Labubu dolls. Surveillance footage shows these four suspects involved in the Labubu incident wearing masks and hooded jackets to conceal their faces.

Introduced back in 2015, Labubu figurines are inspired by the character designs of a collectible series known as “The Monsters.” Since 2019, these figurines have been manufactured by Pop Mart, based in China. The brainchild of Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, The Monsters were conceptualized drawing on elf-like creatures from Nordic mythology and folklore, a concept that was influenced by his childhood spent in the Netherlands and Belgium. The surge in popularity for Labubu dolls occurred in 2024 when Lisa from the South Korean pop group Blackpink was spotted with a Labubu keychain on her bag, generating widespread interest.

Four Suspects Absconded With $30,000 Worth of Labubus

The price of Labubu figurines has significantly increased, accompanied by a bustling market for their resale. Unfortunately, a shop specializing in these popular dolls was recently struck by thieves, as detailed by Dexerto. According to Joanna Avendano, proprietor of One Stop Sales in La Puente, California, the burglary transpired on August 6, around 1:30 AM Pacific time. Security camera footage from the incident was shared on the shop’s Instagram account, depicting four suspects rummaging through the store and making off with approximately $30,000 worth of Labubus. Avendano explained that these four individuals solely focused on stealing the Nordic myth-inspired dolls from the shop, disregarding all other merchandise. The suspects are believed to be males, but each wore masks and hooded sweaters to conceal themselves from the security cameras.

Two days post the incident, some stolen items were found, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is still probing the Labubu heist. As of now, no one has been apprehended in relation to this case. Given that Labubu figurines have collaborated with franchises like One Piece and Coca-Cola, their Chinese collectible status is incredibly sought-after. On platforms such as Amazon, where Pop Mart manages some pages, these Labubu dolls typically sell for around $30. However, due to high demand in the resale market, they’ve become an alluring target for burglars.

Apart from Labubus, there are other sought-after collectibles that have fallen victim to thefts. For instance, the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) has experienced its fair share of burglaries across multiple years. In April 2025 alone, a collector of Pokemon TCG cards was violently robbed, resulting in the loss of a valuable $5,000 Charizard card, which remains missing to this day.
