Following the underwhelming debut of “Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League”, which marked the last performance of Kevin Conroy as Batman, it seems that developer Rocksteady is revising their plans. According to whispers circulating, Rocksteady might be in the process of creating a new Batman game, potentially either a sequel set after “Arkham Knight” or a reimagining of some sort.

Through three games created by Rocksteady and one spin-off by WB Montreal, they delved deep into the expansive universe of Batman. Despite countless hours spent, there remain unexplored aspects of his world and the broader DC Comics universe that could be translated to gameplay. Characters who didn’t appear in previous games or entire storylines yet to be told are just a few examples of elements that Rocksteady might utilize to steer their next Batman journey.

A reboot might not be unwelcome, as it could provide a clean slate, present Bruce as a younger man with a new voice, and offer a fresh beginning.

From my perspective as a dedicated fan, in the world of comic books, the Court of Owls is often perceived as an urban legend, much like Batman himself. With Batman declared dead at the end of Arkham Knight, this secretive group might seize their opportunity to solidify their control over Gotham City even more. If there’s anything that could lure a possibly resurrected Bruce Wayne out of retirement, it would be the Court, given their immense popularity as a formidable villain ensemble, providing an engaging challenge for players to confront.

4. Terry McGinnis

Batman Of The Future Could Star In New Entry

It’s quite plausible that Rocksteady might choose to hold off on their Batman character, favoring instead the introduction of Terry McGinnis, a character fans have been eagerly anticipating. Terry McGinnis made his debut in the 1990s animated series “Batman Beyond.” In this future-set Gotham City, he works alongside an older Bruce Wayne as a mentor, fighting against a variety of new villains and even some from the past.

In simpler terms, developing a Batman Beyond game doesn’t necessarily require Rocksteady to bring back Bruce Wayne from the dead, considering the universe has characters like time-traveling speedsters and super-strong aliens. The idea of exploring a futuristic Gotham city in a Batman Beyond game is thrilling, as it introduces a fresh array of villains and sidekicks that could make the game unique.

The Superfriends Could Unite To Find Batman

Although there were many suggestions and hints throughout the Arkham series, it wasn’t until Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League that the full Justice League made an appearance. If Rocksteady intends to reintroduce Batman (Bruce Wayne), the Justice League could be a promising direction for them to take.

Bruce’s remarkable friends would certainly be eager to reunite with their long-lost companion, and together, they could develop an engaging game centered around the team searching for him. Incorporating elements from “The Flashpoint Paradox” might involve Flash traversing time in search of his buddy. Given the League’s popularity in “Suicide Squad“, it’s plausible that Rocksteady may consider resurrecting these characters.

Post-Apocalytpic Gang From The Dark Knight Returns Could Make Their Debut

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but speculate about where Rocksteady might take us next, given that Arkham Knight concluded with Batman seemingly meeting his end. The thought of exploring a Gotham city in chaos, without its guardian, is exhilarating. This would open up the opportunity for an array of fresh villains to surface. Moreover, it could be the perfect moment for The Mutants, the rebellious gang from The Dark Knight Returns, to step into the limelight and make their mark on the city.

Guided by the sinister Mutant Leader, this band of misfits is made up of some of Gotham City’s most deranged residents. Their gruesome deeds and status as one of Gotham’s most notorious gangs in “The Dark Knight Returns” makes them an ideal addition to any hypothetical game set after “Arkham Knight.” The size of their role can be adjustable, ranging from being the main adversaries to a secondary faction, thereby increasing the difficulty of Batman’s return more than initially expected.

A while back, artwork surfaced for a canceled game at WB Montreal, titled Project Sabbath, which would have centered around Damian Wayne, Batman’s son. This project, strikingly similar to the world of Batman Beyond, depicted an older and rougher Damian as the Dark Knight in a post-apocalyptic Gotham City. Interestingly, Damian’s attire bore resemblance to Terry McGinnis’ futuristic costume from Batman Beyond, and new adaptations of familiar villains were also showcased.

It might be that the creators at WB Montreal drew inspiration from the comic book titled “Batman 666”, where Damian took on the role in a grim, altered future. Regardless of their source material, this idea has potential for an exciting new chapter in the Arkham series. This version wouldn’t necessitate Bruce Wayne, eliminating any resurrection plotlines. Instead, we could witness a dark, apocalyptic Gotham under Damian’s leadership, and controlling a more ruthless, brutal Batman could offer an engaging experience.
