Things That Don’t Make Sense in The Sims Universe

The world of The Sims stands out as unique and eccentric in each of its games, making fans eager to revisit their preferred title, be it a classic like The Sims 2 or a more modern version such as The Sims 4.

This piece discusses some aspects of The Sims that may seem illogical or unusual compared to real life, which either enhance the game’s charm or contribute to a more captivating gaming experience.

Sims Can’t Multitask

Especially While Cooking

As a dedicated Sims player, I’ve noticed that managing my virtual life isn’t quite as smooth as it could be. My Sims seem to have a to-do list of sorts, but they can only focus on one task at a time, which feels a bit limiting. Sure, they can chat or lounge around while working on something else, but it’s not like in real life where we can juggle multiple tasks effectively. I think the developers could enhance the game’s realism by allowing Sims to multitask more efficiently, making our digital lives feel even more immersive and authentic.

In simpler terms, it can be quite annoying when a player initiates a lengthy task in the game, such as preparing a feast or baking a cake. The character (Sim) will just stand near the oven and occasionally peek inside while waiting for the food to cook. It would be more engaging if the Sim could multitask during long cooking sessions, like cleaning the kitchen or even taking a bathroom break. Introducing this feature as a reward for advancing in Cooking Skill within the game could add an extra layer of fun.

Can’t Make Plans for Later

It’s Either Now or Never

When a Sim calls asking another Sim out on a date or any social event, players can either immediately accept and drop what they’re currently doing to join, or decline the invitation altogether. At the moment, there isn’t an option to agree and arrange for a later time in the day, which can be frustrating for players who have planned activities or whose Sims still need to attend to their needs. This feature may discourage some players from accepting invitations due to potential disruptions in their gameplay progression.

Further, Simmers often need to utilize mods to host parties at specific times of the day. Once all social event settings are configured, the event commences straight away.

No Job Interviews

You Want It, You Got It

In The Sims, while it’s possible for characters to attend university and earn degrees, it’s important to note that this isn’t a necessity for most in-game jobs. Instead, it provides benefits such as starting at a more advanced career level. However, the reality within the game is that many careers require some form of higher education to be eligible. As a dedicated fan, I can appreciate the creative freedom offered by The Sims, but I can’t help but wish for a more realistic representation of career requirements!

The Passage of Time

Sims Take Really Long Showers

As a dedicated fan of The Sims 4, I’ve noticed an interesting contrast in daily routines between my virtual family and us real-world folks. Here’s a fun fact: In just three in-game days, a new Sim baby can make its entrance into the family! That’s quite swift, only 72 hours pass before we welcome a little one. On the other hand, taking a shower in The Sims world seems to be a more leisurely affair, requiring around two to three hours for each Sim to get clean. So, if we crunch the numbers and compare it to our real lives, Sims might spend a whopping 274 hours showering, which translates to an astonishing 11 days! Now that’s quite a long time to lather up, don’t you think?

A Sim spending three hours in the shower is excessive for getting ready to work promptly; an hour is most suitable. Shorter 15-minute showers might be insufficient, particularly for players of this game who play on triple speed, as three hours seems excessively lengthy even for a thorough bath.

Those aiming to make their games more authentic may utilize modifications (mods) like MC Command Center, or alter the duration for their Sim characters to deliver babies within the game.

Price Discrepancies

Toilet Paper is a Luxury

As a gaming enthusiast, I gotta say, in the immersive world of The Sims, we can spruce up our virtual bathrooms with some decorative items – and one of them is none other than everyone’s essential, toilet paper! Now, it might seem like just another item, but trust me, it brings a touch of realism to our builds. In the latest addition, The Sims 4, you can grab yourself some rolls for 40 Simoleons – not a bad price for enhancing reality in the game world!

Compared to the high cost of a home in The Sims 4 (which starts at around 20,000 Simoleons), it might seem that Sims earn a good income when they go to work. However, even though toilet paper is pricey, homes in this game are surprisingly affordable.
