Third Actor Joins The Sandman Season 2 as William Shakespeare: Final Season Secrets Unveiled

Summary

  • The Sandman’s second season in 2025 will be the final one, wrapping up Morpheus and the Endless’s journey.
  • Netflix won’t continue the series past two seasons due to showrunner decisions, ending a successful adaptation.
  • Season 2 adds new cast members like Will Keen as a possible older Shakespeare, enhancing the dream world’s journey.

In 2025, we can expect the reappearance of the character known as “The Sandman” for what will be the concluding season of his drama series. Just like every captivating dream, the tale of Morpheus and the Endless will reach its culmination this year, marking the end of the Netflix fantasy series after a mere two seasons. The television adaptation based on the comic books was incredibly popular upon its debut in 2022, and since then, Neil Gaiman’s seminal DC graphic novel series has received renewed interest.

Although fans eagerly anticipate more episodes, Netflix has chosen not to produce a third season of The Sandman, as previously announced by showrunner Allan Heinberg that the series would only consist of two seasons, with Dream being the primary focus rather than exploring other characters from the original comic. Unfortunately, this decision follows allegations of sexual harassment against creator Neil Gaiman, who has since parted ways with Amazon’s Good Omens TV adaptation and been removed by his longtime publisher, Dark Horse. While Season 2 of The Sandman will undoubtedly be a mix of joy and sadness for fans, the cast list is growing as we draw closer to its final chapter this year.

The Sandman Season 2 Casts Its Third Actor To Play William Shakespeare

Based on information from Redanian Intelligence, a trusted source for insights into shows like Netflix’s The Witcher, it has been revealed that Will Keen, an actor recognized for his roles in The Crown and His Dark Materials, has joined the cast of Sandman Season 2. Previously, Samuel Blenkin portrayed a young Shakespeare in Season 1, while Luke Allen-Gale was announced to play the adult version. However, it appears that Will Keen might be playing an older version of Shakespeare, as Morpheus encounters the historical figure at various stages throughout the series in Sandman Season 2.

In Neil Gaiman’s comic series spanning from 1989 to 1996, I had the pleasure of encountering William Shakespeare on two occasions – first in issue #13, titled “Men of Good Fortune, A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and then again in issue #19, “The Tempest.” Interestingly enough, the former issue was awarded a Hugo for best short story, making it the only individual comic issue to ever receive this prestigious honor. Yet, unlike what you might find in the show’s narrative, Shakespeare didn’t visit Morpheus on three separate occasions within the comics. Instead, that particular detail seems to have been incorporated into the series’ overall storyline by the creative minds behind it.

In June 2023, filming for “The Sandman” season two began at Shepperton Studios in the UK. However, due to SAG-AFTRA strikes, production was halted a month later. Fortunately, by November 2024, things started moving forward again, reassuring fans that production had indeed resumed. The second season of “The Sandman” promises to be even more captivating with the addition of a fiery Norse god character played by Laurence O’Fuarain.

The Sandman Season 2’s final season is scheduled to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2025.
