This 2026 Steam Free Game Is Perfect For Bloodborne, Elden Ring Fans

The upcoming Soulslike game Phyllosoma is being developed by Team Respect Guild, a small team of just four game enthusiasts. While clearly taking inspiration from popular titles like Dark Souls, Lies of P, and Bloodborne, Phyllosoma is designed to be a short experience, and will be available to play for free on Steam.

The Steam page for Phyllosoma explains what players can expect, but those familiar with Soulslike games will likely recognize the overall structure. It might not fully satisfy everyone, but if you’re a big fan of the genre and looking for a new challenge, it could definitely be appealing.

Phyllosoma Is A New Free Soulslike

Phyllosoma is simple, but charmingly so, because it captures the core elements that make Souls-like games appealing. Think of it as an extended tutorial for a full Souls-like, with exploration added to give it more playtime.

Even though it’s a relatively short game, exploring the world of Phyllosoma is important. Healing items work like the blood vials in Bloodborne – once you use them, they’re gone, unlike the Estus flasks in Dark Souls which refill when you die. Also, the game doesn’t let you regain health after being defeated like in Bloodborne. This means players must find and save healing items if they want to reach the top of the fortress.

It’s Short, But Brutal

Okay, so I just finished Phyllosoma, and it’s short. It tries to be a Soulslike, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Most of the regular enemies are pretty easy to handle, but the bosses? Those are where things get real. The biggest issue for me was the healing system. There’s no way to quickly recover after taking a hit unless you nail those Perfect Guards – seriously, you have to be super precise, kinda like in Lies of P. If you mess up your timing, you’re gonna have a bad time!

Many of the technical problems with Phyllosoma, like awkward enemy behavior and animations, are common issues found in games similar to those made by FromSoftware. It’s also important to remember that Team Respect Guild is a small team of just four people. Considering its limited scope and that it’s available for free on Steam, these flaws are easily overlooked.

Honestly, I’m really curious to see what happens with Phyllosoma. Will it grow into something huge on its own, or will they make a sequel that’s even better and finally give Bloodborne some real competition? I’m hoping for either, to be real!
