Over the years, LEGO has created sets based on many popular video game franchises, but one major series is notably missing. LEGO has evolved a lot as a company, with significant changes over the decades. A turning point came in 2005 when they partnered with TT Games to make LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, which was a huge success. This led to LEGO producing family-friendly sets based on games like Mario and Fortnite. However, despite a new Resident Evil movie coming out and the release of Resident Evil Requiem as the ninth main game in the series, we still haven’t seen any LEGO Resident Evil sets.
The Resident Evil series has consistently delivered excellent games and expanded into various other forms of entertainment. The original Resident Evil in 1996 was a huge hit, leading to five sequels and a live-action movie within just six years. This established the franchise as a classic, celebrated for its unique blend of genres, gripping survival horror, and memorable characters. Despite years of requests, LEGO hasn’t officially created Resident Evil sets, so fans have taken matters into their own hands, building custom creations and even a LEGO animation based on Resident Evil 4. Given its popularity, Resident Evil seems like a perfect fit for LEGO, but two key aspects of the series may be preventing official sets from happening.
Resident Evil is Beautiful Yet Lacks Color
The Resident Evil series consistently features stunning environments – from the grand, gothic setting of Resident Evil Village to the ornate castle in Resident Evil 4 and the iconic Spencer Mansion in the original game. However, these locations are notably lacking in color. This might not seem like a big deal, but compared to the bright and vibrant designs of other LEGO sets, it’s clear how important color is to LEGO’s overall look and brand identity.
As a LEGO fan, I’ve noticed they’re really leaning into popular, colorful franchises like Sonic and Minecraft for their sets, which is cool! But I’ve been thinking about the Resident Evil set, and while I love it, I can see why more realistic, darker-themed LEGO sets aren’t as common. They just don’t quite fit the brighter, more playful style LEGO usually goes for.
LEGO Doesn’t Opt For Horror or Violence in Its Sets
LEGO has made several Haunted Mansion or Haunted House sets, but generally leans towards lighter, more playful horror themes suitable for children. Because LEGO doesn’t offer much for adult horror fans, the community often builds their own creations – like one skilled fan who designed LEGO scenes from famous horror movies.
Given that LEGO sets generally avoid intense or frightening themes, it’s not surprising that a gruesome survival-horror series like Resident Evil doesn’t have a LEGO version. LEGO prioritizes a younger audience, meaning its sets don’t include violence or gore—elements that are often central to the Resident Evil games, especially the remakes. This makes a collaboration between the two brands unlikely.
If LEGO sets based on the Resident Evil games were ever made, the Spencer Mansion from the first game would be a top choice for fans. It would be a large, detailed set – probably over a thousand pieces – with hidden rooms and secrets built in, just like in the game itself.
Beyond that, memorable locations like the lake attack from Resident Evil 4 and the Raccoon City Police Department from Resident Evil 2 would make fantastic LEGO sets. Because fans love so many characters, minifigures would be a simple addition. With Leon Kennedy recently returning to Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem, now is an ideal time to feature him in an RCPD set.
With a new Resident Evil game recently released and a major movie planned for 2026, fans are hoping LEGO will create sets based on the popular franchise. The recent collaboration between Resident Evil and the family-friendly game Fortnite suggests other companies, like LEGO, might be interested too. While it’s not certain if LEGO Resident Evil sets will ever happen, many believe this legendary series deserves them after decades of popularity.
