For years, Overwatch and April Fools’ Day have been a fun combination, with Blizzard releasing a playful update filled with jokes and silly changes. The most famous addition is definitely the googly eyes stuck on all the heroes – they’re as ridiculous as you’d expect! They also create a limited-time game mode that’s presented as if it was accidentally released, appearing as text in the menu (this year it’s called Underwatch). This mode playfully exaggerates hero abilities, poking fun at common community balance discussions, and includes funny patch notes and new character voice lines. However, this year, what really stands out is a joke that wasn’t even officially planned by the developers.
As a huge Overwatch fan, I loved this year’s April Fools’ joke! Besides the hilarious Underwatch mode, they also added a little Pachimari icon that sits in your taskbar on PC – it’s such a cute and unexpected detail, and a fun little extra for us PC players!
Overwatch’s DC Collab is Obviously Fake, But It Still Hurts
Now that the game Marvel Rivals is out, it seems unlikely we’ll ever see a collaboration between Overwatch and Marvel, though I’d still love to see Overwatch team up with DC Comics. That’s why I was so excited this morning when I saw a post on Reddit – from a reliable source of Overwatch leaks and updates – showing potential DC-themed skins. I was immediately drawn to the designs featuring Superman as Soldier: 76, Batman as Cassidy, and Wonder Woman as Vendetta. The final combination looked amazing, so I purchased it right away. Then I read the caption.
Okay, so Overwatch’s April Fools’ joke was really well-executed, I’ll give them that. The date being April 31st was a dead giveaway, and the idea of Cassidy being the one to team up with a character who despises guns – when Genji is right there and could easily be a Batman analogue – was clever. They even threw in a fake game, DC Allies, to really sell the bit. But honestly? As someone who totally fell for it, I’m still bummed! It’s because this joke is literally my dream Overwatch collab – a Batman crossover I’ve been hoping for forever. It was a brilliant prank, but it kinda hurt my feelings, haha.

What Other Skins Would Work for a DC x Overwatch Collab?
As a big fan who owns a lot of DC Omnibuses, I’ve been thinking about cool character skins that could come from a collaboration between DC and Overwatch. While Superman and Batman are obvious choices, I think they’d fit better as Reinhardt and Genji, respectively, instead of Soldier and Cassidy. I especially love the idea of a Wonder Woman skin inspired by the character Vendetta. Here are some other possibilities for DC and Overwatch character combinations, but there are many more!

The recent character skins are just a glimpse of the potential; they could release many more. Imagine maps based on places like Gotham City and limited-time game modes that give Overwatch heroes powers similar to DC characters. I’m really hoping this collaboration isn’t just an April Fool’s joke, because it’s a fantastic idea and honestly, it’s either funny or heartbreaking to think about how good it could be.
