The Void Century And The Hidden Information From The Era
- The Void Century Was Covered By The World Government
- Nobody Has Any Recollection Of This Era
At the heart of the storyline of “One Piece,” the mysterious Void Century plays a significant role. While Luffy’s quest to obtain the One Piece is central to the plot, it’s also connected to larger world mysteries, including the 100-year period known as the Void Century, which is essentially a timeframe about which absolutely nothing is known. As Luffy continues his journey toward becoming the Pirate King and claiming the One Piece, more details about the Void Century will gradually be unveiled to fans. For now, hints and clues about this era are being doled out, and they’ve already proven quite intriguing. Although it was previously known that the World Government and the Ancient Kingdom were major players during the Void Century, a deeper secret has always been suspected. The Egghead Island Arc provided some valuable insights into this mystery thanks to the character of Vegapunk, revealing more about the enigmatic Void Century.
His name was Joy Boy and he was the first pirate to ever sail the seas. — Vegapunk
In the fascinating realm of One Piece, it’s been disclosed that the first pirate, known as Joy Boy, hailed from an elusive and opulent kingdom filled with wealth in times past. However, 20 rulers united against his domain, triggering a colossal war that lasted a century. This unparalleled conflict was so immense that it resulted in the submergence and devastation of the entire world, causing it to sink by approximately 200 meters over this period. Tragically, Joy Boy perished at the end of this prolonged struggle. The World Government was subsequently founded by the 20 kings who had joined forces, and their descendants are known as the Celestial Dragons. To keep certain truths hidden, such as the sinking of the world, the ancient kingdom, Joy Boy, the ancient weapons, and the people of the D, the World Government has employed years of manipulation through propaganda and brainwashing. Yet, there could remain a hidden secret lurking beneath all this.
The Memo Memo no Mi And Its Key Role In The Void Century
The Power To Erase And Alter Memories
In pondering the Void Century, one can’t help but grapple with the mystery surrounding the dissemination of information. It’s puzzling how ancient texts survive so effortlessly, yet an era submerged 200 meters underwater just 800 years ago seems to have been completely erased. This should be widely accepted knowledge about the world’s inhabitants. However, this becomes even more intriguing when we consider the existence of the Giant race in the world of One Piece. These beings live for over 300 years, with the current oldest, Jarul, being 408 years old. This implies that his parents could have been children during the Void Century, or his grandparents could have fought in this era. It’s strange that Giants like Jarul seem to know nothing about this era. Yet, there may be a reason for this, and it might be linked to the Memo Memo no Mi.
Which light would you like to be erased next, oh great Saint Imu? — Five Elders
In case some fans might have forgotten, the Memo Memo no Mi is a potent Paramecia type of Devil Fruit now owned by Pudding, the 36th child of the Charlotte Family. However, during the Void Century, this powerful fruit could potentially have ended up with someone from one of the 20 King’s allies. The Memo Memo no Mi grants its user the ability to manipulate others’ memories, removing or altering them as desired and even fabricating new ones entirely. In the Whole Cake Island arc of One Piece, we saw this fruit being used to its full potential. Pudding could only use her abilities on a single individual initially, but with time, she was able to affect more people. An important detail to keep in mind is Devil Fruit Awakening, which might significantly increase the power and range of these abilities.
The reason “One Piece” has lasted for 20 years is largely due to the Seven Seas Warlords (Shichibukai). Initially, the story was planned as a five-year tale about battling the Four Sea Emperors (Yonko), but the idea of introducing these seven intriguing Sea Warlords into the comic seemed too appealing. It turned out that this decision led to an unexpectedly lengthy series. I can’t help but wonder if having only Five or Two Sea Warlords would have made it shorter; instead, “Seven Warlords” just sounded so much more captivating! Nonetheless, I have no regrets as I’ve brought my ideas to life on paper. A little more and the story will be complete! – Oda
If the individual who once possessed the Memo Memo no Mi had activated its Devil Fruit abilities, following a catastrophic population wipeout due to massive flooding that claimed countless lives, the surviving populace might have been easily influenced by the user of the Devil Fruit. This manipulation could have occurred through the activation of the awakened power, which would have had far-reaching effects and required no direct contact or use of a pair of scissors. In this hypothetical situation, the information about the event would have been effectively concealed due to the World Government’s actions. They killed millions and employed powers to modify memories, thereby reshaping the world as we know it today.
The War Against The World Government Will Uncover All The Secrets
The Upcoming War Will See All Information Get Revealed
Regardless if the details about the Void Century were wiped out by a Devil Fruit that alters memory or not, fans are certain that the Final Saga of One Piece is where all secrets will be revealed. This part of the story is what has everyone on the edge of their seats, and once Luffy reaches Laugh Tale and claims the title of Pirate King, we can expect to learn the truth about the events that occurred during the Void Century. Just like how Vegapunk’s message was shared with the world, this information too will likely be spread far and wide.
You can access “One Piece” through Viz Media. Fans can legally read it for free on the Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps. The next chapter, “One Piece 1136,” is scheduled to be released on January 19, 2025.
