Voice actor Roger Craig Smith, known for portraying popular characters like Ezio Auditore, Batman, Captain America, Sonic, and Kyle Crane, recently appeared on the TopMob podcast hosted by Naomi Kyle.
In the interview, Smith discussed his diverse career path, starting with his work as a stage actor and expanding into screenwriting, stand-up comedy, and ultimately, voice acting. He shared insights into the challenges and successes he experienced along the way.
I was really excited to hear him talk about the kinds of roles he’s hoping for! He mentioned wanting to be part of huge franchises like Halo or Half-Life, which would be amazing. But honestly, what I really loved was hearing him say he’d love to play Kale Vandelay from Hi-Fi Rush again. If you played that game, you know how awesome – and tricky – that would be!
Smith mentioned he’d enjoy playing the character Kale Vandelay again. He believes a villain should be entertaining – someone who’s over-the-top and self-important. He described Vandelay as someone who felt victimized, despite also being mean and a generally bad person.
Although there hasn’t been any official announcement about a sequel in years, rumors about HiFi Rush 2 continue to circulate, even after the unexpected closure of the game’s developer, Tango Gameworks, by Microsoft.
Smith admitted they aren’t sure if Hi-Fi Rush will return, saying they have no knowledge of future plans for the game, but expressed enthusiasm about revisiting the series if given the opportunity.
Just a few months after the announcement that the studio was closing, Krafton—the company that owns PUBG Studios and others—revealed it was buying Tango Gameworks, largely to safeguard the rights to their game Hi-Fi Rush.
According to Krafton’s Maria Park, the team was already developing Hi-Fi Rush 2 when they first connected. Their goal is to exceed what current fans are hoping for in the sequel, according to a statement to gameindustry.biz.
The interview happened in October 2024, and we haven’t heard anything about the next installment since then. However, it’s likely that work on it is still ongoing, meaning Smith might still have an opportunity.
