The popular team-based shooter, known simply as Overwatch today, actually started as a sequel to the original game released in 2016. Blizzard recently removed the “2” from the title and announced they’ll be adding ten new playable heroes throughout the year. Among the 21 original heroes is Zarya, who’s become a fan favorite thanks to her strong build, bright pink hair, and ability to create powerful shields. These shields don’t just protect her team – they also charge up her incredibly powerful Particle Cannon.
Overwatch Fans Want Zarya to be Given More by Blizzard
Zarya is one of the first heroes from Overwatch, but fans believe Blizzard Entertainment, the game’s creator, has been overlooking her. A recent Reddit post by Waevunreal pointed out that Zarya hasn’t been featured in a highlight intro since 2018, and the post quickly gained over 6,000 likes. Even though Zarya isn’t currently one of the most-played heroes, she still has a dedicated fanbase and is relevant in the game, so players are frustrated by the lack of attention she’s receiving.

Players aren’t just upset about the missing intro highlights for Zarya; they’re also disappointed with the limited number of good skins available for her in Overwatch. While her Chinese New Year, Barbarian, and Totally ’80s skins are popular, many fans feel they don’t measure up to the skins offered for other heroes and would like to see more detailed and appealing options for Zarya.
Some players believe Zarya doesn’t get as much attention as other characters because of her strong, muscular build. They feel Blizzard has focused more on slimmer, traditionally feminine female characters like Juno, Kiriko, and Mercy. While Zarya’s physique makes sense for a tank hero – a role already filled by large characters like Winston and Wrecking Ball – there’s concern it might be limiting her popularity compared to those other designs.
It’s true that some fans feel Zarya doesn’t get as much attention as other characters in Overwatch, but Blizzard hasn’t completely ignored her. In February, they offered a free, limited-time Zarya skin and loot box to viewers of certain Twitch streams.
