This is How Many Pokemon TCG Pocket Deluxe Packs You Have to Open to Complete the Set

Gathering all the cards in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket‘s limited-time Deluxe Pack EX is incredibly difficult. One player estimates it could take opening over 2,000 booster packs to complete the collection. The Deluxe Pack EX currently has the most cards of any booster set in Pokemon TCG Pocket, and a few other things are making it even harder to collect them all.

The Deluxe Pack EX for Pokemon TCG Pocket was officially revealed around a week ago, and it started appearing in stores at the end of September. This pack brings back several cards from the game’s first year, including some with unique artwork. It’s also the first limited-time booster expansion for the game, meaning it will only be available for 30 days after it was released.

Collecting Every Deluxe Pack EX Card Is Very Expensive

So, this limited-time pack lets you grab 353 basic cards you might’ve missed, plus 26 cool variants. But getting *all* of them? That’s gonna take a ton of Pack Hourglasses. I saw one player did a huge experiment – 10,000 simulations! – and posted the results on Reddit. They found that to collect all the cards with one to four diamonds, you’d need to open, on average, 1,536 packs. They were 99% sure they’d have everything between the 1,437th and 1,640th pack. Just a heads-up, the Deluxe EX Pack cards *only* count for that specific Dex, not the original sets they came from. And it works the other way around too – cards you got in the first 11 sets won’t show up as collected in the new Dex. It’s a bit complicated, but basically, you’re starting fresh with those older cards!

The situation becomes even more complex when considering the 26 cards that are considered rare (one-star or higher). To complete the entire Deluxe Pack EX card list, you’d need to open an average of 2,197 packs. We’re 99 percent confident that the actual number falls between 2,078 and 2,321 packs. These numbers are all impacted by a downside of the Deluxe Pack EX: it only gives you four cards per pull, instead of the usual five.

Because players who don’t spend money only get to open two packs every 24 hours, giving them a maximum of 60 pulls while the packs are available, collecting every card in the set requires frequent use of Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Pack Hourglasses. Each hourglass reduces the pack-opening cooldown by one hour. Considering Wonder Picks as well, the person who conducted the study found that the chances of getting all the cards dropped significantly to about 400 packs. However, even with the hourglasses, completing the set would still cost a player around $260.
