This article contains spoilers for Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s DLC.
The Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A brings back a huge number of rare Pokemon – a total of 9 Legendary and 11 Mythical ones – and you can catch them all right away. The base game of Pokemon Legends: Z-A already featured 230 Pokemon, including all from the Kalos region and others. However, it was a little limited in terms of newer generations, with only Drampa (Gen 7) and Falinks (Gen 8) appearing, and no Pokemon from the most recent Gen 9.
After its release, Pokemon Legends: Z-A featured events to unlock Diancie and Mewtwo, bringing the total number of Pokemon available to 232. The new Mega Dimension DLC expands this even further, adding 132 more Pokemon, including regional variations and several Legendary and Mythical creatures. While some of these Pokemon are found through the story, others are only available after completing the game and require specific actions to unlock. Surprisingly, players have discovered that all 132 can be caught immediately without waiting for any events.
Here’s How to Get All Legendary and Mythical Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC (and Shiny Too)
The upcoming DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature a range of returning Legendary and Mythical Pokemon. Here’s a guide to which ones are coming back and how to obtain them.
- Legendary:
- Heatran: Progress through the Mega Dimension DLC story and make a 3-star or 4-star Donut to access Hyperspace Lumiose. Then, battle Mega Heatran and catch it.
- Groudon: Progress through the Mega Dimension DLC story and make an Omega Old-Fashioned Donut to unlock the battle against Primal Groudon.
- Kyogre: Progress through the Mega Dimension DLC story and make an Alpha Old-Fashioned Donut to unlock the battle against Primal Kyogre.
- Rayquaza: Progress through the Mega Dimension DLC story and make a Delta Old-Fashioned Donut to unlock the battle against Mega Rayquaza.
- Latias: Via special scan.
- Latios: Via special scan.
- Virizion: Via special scan.
- Terrakion: Via special scan.
- Cobalion: Via special scan.
- Mythical:
- Darkrai: Progress through the Mega Dimension DLC story and make a Bad Dreams Cruller Donut to unlock the battle against Mega Darkrai.
- Genesect: Get Side Mission 191: Collecting Four Drives from the shady man who sells new TMs in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which will require you to buy the four Drives from him for Mega Shards. Each Drive, Douse, Shock, Burn, and Chill, costs 540 Mega Shards. After that, follow the directions of the quest to find Genesect, battle it, and catch it.
- Marshadow: Get Side Mission 192: The Stealthy Shadow from Gardie, located in Jaune Sector 11, then head to the battle courtyard near Wild Zone 20 late in the day. When the shadow from the tower hits the middle of the courtyard, a Poke Ball, Marshadow will appear, and you will be able to battle it and catch it. It’s worth noting that the shadow of the tower will reach the courtyard at around dusk, and you will need the weather conditions to be sunny, as otherwise the tower won’t cast its shadow.
- Meltan and Melmetal: Get Side Mission 193: Dreams of Meltan in Rouge Sector 1, then battle and catch Meltan. A Hyperspace area will appear, and you need a Donut to access it. Once inside, follow the quest steps to get Melmetal.
- Volcanion: Get Side Mission 194: Volcanion Unleashed at Mable’s lab and follow the steps of the mission. This will make Volcanion spawn, so you will be able to battle and catch it.
- Magearna: Get Side Mission 195: Restarting Magearna from Jett at Quasartico. Collect 999 Mega Shards and talk to Jett again, who will award you both Magearna and Mega Magearna’s Mega Stone.
- Hoopa: Get Side Mission 196: The Djinn Unbound from Taunie/Urbain at Hotel Z. Follow the step quests and enter Hyperspace Lumiose with a 4-star or 5-star Donut, then battle and defeat Hoopa Unbound to unlock the Pokemon.
- Zeraora: Purchase Canari Bread from Terragon at Racine Construction, then find a kid on the rooftops of Vert Sector 3. Trade him the Canari Bread for Popping Candy, then go to Hotel Z and talk to Ansha. You have to bake a Plazma-Glazed Donut for Zeraora, then Emma will call and give you Side Mission EX3: Raging Lightning. Follow the quest steps to defeat Mega Zeraora and catch it.
- Keldeo: Via special scan.
- Meloetta: Via special scan.
You’ll need to finish the expansion’s story before you can unlock the special scans required to find Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. After completing the story, you’ll receive more survey requests. Once you earn 25,000 points from these surveys, you can return to Corbeau and Philippe. Philippe will then offer you the chance to begin a special scan, which will open a portal to the Hyperspace Lumiose area in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
This special area has a chance to feature a rare Legendary or Mythical Pokémon, but it’s completely random. While collecting all of these Pokémon in Legends: Z-A will take effort, you can do it immediately – there’s no waiting or time-locked content holding you back.
Furthermore, for those looking for shiny critters, the following Legendary Pokemon can be shiny:
- Latias
- Latios
- Virizion
- Terrakion
- Cobalion
Okay, so I was really excited about Keldeo and Meloetta being in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but it’s a bummer – you can’t find their shiny forms in the game. Even if you get lucky with a special Tera Raid scan, they’re permanently locked to their normal colors. It’s a bit disappointing as a shiny hunter!
The upcoming DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A introduces new ways to hunt for shiny Pokemon, giving you a better chance of finding them. A helpful feature is the ability to save right before using the special scan portals. If you don’t find a shiny Pokemon through the portal, there’s a way to reset without losing too much progress. Simply close and restart the game, then hold the Up arrow, X, and B buttons at the same time on the title screen. This will load your last manual save, skipping over any autosaves that occurred during the portal attempt.
