This article contains major spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen story.
Among recent anime series, *Jujutsu Kaisen* has quickly become a standout hit. Right from the start, it impressed viewers with its compelling characters, striking visuals, complex power system, and thrilling action sequences, solidifying its place as one of the most popular and highly-regarded anime and manga series of today.
Now that the *Jujutsu Kaisen* manga has finished, readers have a much better understanding of the story than anime-only viewers. With Season 3 of the anime coming soon, fans are anticipating an incredible fight that many predict will be even more impactful than the moment Luffy achieved Gear 5 in *One Piece*. Let’s explore why the battle between Gojo and Sukuna is expected to be a landmark event for the genre.
The Build Up To The Fight Is Arguably The Best In The Industry
A Fight Promised From The Start

- The fight has been teased from the very first episode.
The upcoming fight between Gojo and Sukuna is arguably the most anticipated battle in anime history. This anticipation stems from the very beginning of the series, when Gojo established Sukuna as the strongest jujutsu sorcerer ever and made preventing his release a top priority. However, Gojo confidently asserted that he could defeat Sukuna, even if the King of Curses were to break free.
Fans had been anticipating this moment for a long time, but it seemed to never arrive. When the Shibuya Incident began, Kenjaku realized Gojo’s incredible power was the biggest obstacle to his plan. So, he trapped Gojo within the Prison Realm. However, everyone knew Gojo wouldn’t stay contained for long.

While imprisoned, Kenjaku fully revealed his plan for the Culling Game, and the heroes focused on locating the Prison Realm to free Gojo. Meanwhile, Sukuna had taken control of Megumi’s body and gathered nearly all of his fingers, making him incredibly powerful.
The heroes finally reached the Prison Realm and freed Gojo. He immediately headed for Sukuna and Kenjaku, eager to fight. But Kenjaku delayed the battle, wanting both Gojo and Sukuna to be at their strongest when they finally clashed. When the time finally arrived, it promised to be the most epic battle ever seen in the manga.
The Fight Between Gojo And Sukuna Surpassed All Of The Hype
The Greatest Manga Battle

Fight End | Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 236, “Heading South” |
From the moment Gojo and Sukuna started fighting, it was clear why everyone considers them the absolute best. Honestly, they *deserved* those titles of strongest sorcerer ever and strongest sorcerer *right now*. The way they controlled cursed energy and used jujutsu was just on another level – I haven’t seen anything come close to it, either before or since. It was breathtaking!
The battle was set up perfectly to highlight each fighter’s strengths and weaknesses, ultimately proving they were remarkably evenly matched. Through a dazzling display of powerful techniques and abilities – including multiple Domain Expansions and Cursed Technique Amplifications – the most skilled sorcerers in the *Jujutsu Kaisen* universe demonstrated a level of power that no one else, sorcerer or cursed spirit, could even approach. It was clear they were the only ones capable of fighting such a balanced and intense battle against each other.
Let’s start by peeling off those scales!
Gojo had perfected his Infinity technique and was relentlessly attacking Sukuna with both cursed energy attacks and physical blows. Sukuna, however, possessed his own powerful technique, Cleave and Dismantle, and, having taken control of Megumi’s body, could also utilize the Ten Shadows, even summoning Mahoraga to learn and adapt. While it appeared Sukuna was being overwhelmed for a long time, he was secretly preparing a counter-strategy.
Sukuna, recognizing his opponent’s incredible defense – the Infinity Cursed Technique – and being a Jujutsu sorcerer even more gifted than Gojo, knew he needed a way to break through it. He accomplished this by utilizing Mahoraga’s adaptive abilities, creatively finding a method to bypass Infinity using the Shikigami.
You almost died in Yuji, but you somehow survived. Because of that, I’ve decided I’ll deal with Megumi *after* I take care of you.
Both Sukuna and Gojo were evenly matched in terms of their domain expansions and abilities, but Sukuna was the more strategic fighter. Even while holding back his true form, he cleverly used Mahoraga’s adaptation skills to study Gojo’s technique and find a weakness. Mahoraga eventually learned to bypass Gojo’s Infinity by attacking *around* him, guaranteeing damage to anything nearby. This created the opportunity Sukuna was waiting for.
I was absolutely floored by Sukuna’s strategy! He realized he couldn’t just *break* Gojo’s Infinity, so he used Binding Vows to massively boost his Cleave and Dismantle, aiming to slice *around* the Infinity instead. It created this insane attack he called the ‘World Cutting Slash’! He built up enough power, and when Gojo briefly lowered his guard, Sukuna unleashed it, ending the fight and tragically defeating the strongest sorcerer we’d ever seen. Honestly, it was a brutal but brilliant move that definitively established Sukuna as the most powerful sorcerer in the entire *Jujutsu Kaisen* universe.
Why This Fight Has The Ability To Surpass Luffy’s Gear 5 Form
An Amazing Event
Okay, so Yuji Itadori is *technically* the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen, but let’s be real – Gojo Satoru is the one everyone knows and loves! From the beginning, Gege Akutami has really highlighted how important Gojo is to the story. He’s basically the standard all the other sorcerers are measured against, and honestly, he’s the biggest reason the world is in the state it’s in. He’s just that powerful and influential!
Gojo’s death will have a huge impact on the series because he’s easily the most popular character in *Jujutsu Kaisen* with fans. His great design and cheerful personality made him instantly likable. Unlike typical serious mentors in this genre, Gojo’s playful nature made him feel relatable, like a friend to the main characters rather than just a teacher.

Despite his playful and composed exterior, Gojo is a deeply troubled character. He possesses immense power, but he was unable to prevent his close friend from falling into darkness or protect a young girl he was meant to safeguard. This inner struggle defines him, driving him to help his students grow strong so they can avoid similar pain and isolation. He wants to ensure they never have to experience the same helplessness he felt.
Ultimately, even though Satoru Gojo lost his battle with Sukuna, his belief in the power of teamwork proved to be the key to defeating him. Gojo’s sacrifice ultimately led to Sukuna’s downfall. He’s become one of the most popular anime characters in recent years, and his final fight is sure to be remembered as one of the greatest moments in anime history.
