Players of Crimson Desert are asking the developers at Pearl Abyss to let them customize the appearance of the main character, Kliff. Specifically, they want options to remove parts of his armor and weapons. After a challenging launch, giving players more control over Kliff’s look could significantly improve their experience.
The launch of Crimson Desert on March 19th sparked a strong reaction from players. The game was highly anticipated for 2026, and while it sold very well – boosting Pearl Abyss’s stock by almost 28% – opinions were sharply divided. Some players immediately loved the game, while others criticized its story and how the combat controls felt. However, Pearl Abyss is already working on improvements to the controls.
Crimson Desert Players Want More Visual Customization Options for Kliff
Now that one issue has been resolved, players are requesting a new feature: the ability to make parts of Kliff’s gear see-through. This would allow them to better see Kliff while experiencing the combat in Crimson Desert. A simple solution would be to let players toggle the visibility of helmets, a feature found in many other games. This would let players enjoy the benefits of headgear without hiding Kliff’s face. Currently, some players are constantly switching helmets on and off – putting them on right before a fight and taking them off otherwise – just to get a clear view, but many find this process annoying and time-consuming.

While Crimson Desert offers diverse combat options – including one- and two-handed weapons, and even wrestling-style fighting – shields aren’t essential for most fighting styles. Despite this, Kliff always has his shield visibly attached to his back, even when using other weapons. Players want the option to remove the shield completely, allowing for a more fluid look and the possibility of fighting with one-handed swords or axes without relying on it for defense.
Pearl Abyss likely expected players would want more control over their character’s appearance. After the game launched, many voiced their preference for creating fully custom characters instead of playing as Kliff. Players criticized his typical fantasy design and quiet personality, saying it’s hard to connect with him. While you can change Kliff’s armor and appearance with options like hairstyles, eyebrows, beards, and tattoos, many Crimson Desert players feel there still isn’t enough visual customization for Kliff and the other playable characters, Damiane and Oongka.
