Regrettably, the character’s screen time is limited to just a few minutes. The design has been upgraded to resemble more closely the Taskmaster comic book version and she is introduced powerfully, but unfortunately, the character meets an untimely end due to a straightforward gunshot before the Thunderbolts team even forms.

In a brief on-screen appearance, Olga Kurylenko’s character seems to be used sparingly, leaving the legendary comic figure with untapped potential for impactful scenes. Regrettably, the character known as Taskmaster is never explicitly named, and beyond a short introduction by Yelena Belova, there is limited exploration of her character.

8. Valentina Allegra De Fontaine

This duality makes her all the more menacing, as she orchestrates the formation of the Thunderbolts* and treats their enemies, whom she views merely as commodities. Julia Louis-Dreyfus delivers an impressive performance, making Valentina appear truly wicked on screen.

In numerous films, both in the Marvel universe and beyond, there’s a recurring theme about an accomplice, initially loyal to a villain, who eventually feels remorse for their actions and chooses to turn against them.

In the comic series titled “Thunderbolts,” the character Mel functions as an assistant to Valentina. As the story progresses, Mel comes to understand that Valentina’s behavior has become increasingly twisted and reckless, most notably in her handling of Sentry. This realization leads to a significant disillusionment on Mel’s part, eventually causing her to switch allegiances.

6. Ghost

Despite having less character development compared to the other Thunderbolts, Ghost’s growth from her initial appearance is clearly visible. Her steadfast refusal to abandon people underscores the influence of Janet Pym saving her life. Furthermore, Ghost’s role is expanded, with her, Yelena Belova, and John Walker frequently engaging in lively banter in almost every scene they share, adding a fun dynamic to their interactions.

5. Winter Soldier

His Dark Past Makes Bucky Perfect For The Team

Despite his efforts to become a U.S. Congressman, he manages to inject humor into the situation while still preserving the tough and gritty persona associated with the Winter Soldier character.

Yet, John’s transformation into a more noble character seems like a logical development from how we last encountered him on screen, with Wyatt Russell masterfully embodying the role in every moment.

In numerous aspects, Alexei Shostakov, known as the Red Guardian, stands out as a cherished core member of the Thunderbolts team, as he’s the sole individual who embraces the concept of camaraderie, while others appear hesitant. Despite his rough-around-the-edges super-soldier persona and frequent errors, it’s hard not to admire him due to his unwavering optimism and resilience, shining even in the grimmest scenes throughout the movie.

David Harbour maintains his charm from the “Black Widow” film, providing comic relief without undermining the film’s somber mood. Yet, he is not merely a jester for audience amusement; instead, he forms an emotional bond with Yelena that deepens upon their interactions in “Black Widow,” and this connection reaches its peak during the climax. Moreover, he transforms into the superhero he aspired to be throughout the storyline.

2. Black Widow

Yelena Carries The Team And Her Sister’s Legacy

Despite her ongoing grief over her late sister, Yelena Belova now helms the Thunderbolts in place of the Black Widow within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once more, Florence Pugh delivers a powerful portrayal. Yelena reflects the common traits among the team members – a history of regrettable decisions, past traumas leading to self-loathing and hidden depression that gnaws at their very core.
