Timberborn update adds new physics, mod support, and more

As a seasoned city-builder and a longtime enthusiast of games that combine strategy with natural elements, this latest update for Timberborn has me beaming with excitement! Having spent countless hours managing virtual towns, I can appreciate the depth Mechanistry is adding to the hydro-engineering options in this game.

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the creators at Mechanistry have dropped some exciting news about an upcoming overhaul for my favorite city-building game, Timberborn! This update will bring in 3D water physics, officially supporting mods, and much more to enhance our gaming experience. Can’t wait to dive back into this captivating beaver metropolis!

Following its early release in 2021, the game Timberborn achieved the milestone of selling over one million units within two years and maintains a favorable rating on Steam. In light of this latest update, we’ve prepared a fresh trailer for you, and we’ll delve into the specifics afterward.

In this latest version, we’re on update number six, titled “The Miracles of H2O”. The creator emphasizes that this update expands the possibilities for hydraulic engineering in Timberborn, making it simpler to control both water and polluted water sources.

Gain mastery over two contrasting groups, each possessing advanced construction technologies such as aqueducts, underwater passages, and even submerged urban areas. Elevate your rivers and cities to unprecedented heights using innovative building solutions like suspended platforms and vertical power channels for skyward construction. Your future constructions will be taller and more complex than ever before!

Here’s the new features, then:

  • 3D water physics –Timberborn’s hallmark feature goes 3D. Water and badwater now flows over buildings, making it possible to build aqueducts, underwater tunnels, and even entire underwater cities. Automated sluices, impermeable floors, and updates to dams and floodgates bring even greater creativity to your hydro-engineering.
  • Expanded Verticality – Newly-added overhangs change how platforms work, allowing the player to erect sky-high structures with layers of buildings and water. With vertical power shafts added, the power grid can now easily reach the skies.
  • Endgame Wonders – These faction-specific monuments allow the beavers’ planet-restoration plans to take effect: The Earth Recultivator (Folktails) sends out balloons filled with seed packs, while the Earth Repopulator (Iron Teeth) ejects beaver pioneers in airborne gliders.
  • New Map and Reworked Maps – Cliffside, a new diorama-like map, joins the array, and old maps have been reworked to play better with 3D water physics.
  • Customizable Beaver Tails – The Detailer building allows the player to add custom markings to the beavers’ most prominent feature.
  • New Languages – In-game support for Turkish, Thai, & Traditional Chinese languages
  • Official Mod Support & Steam Workshop Integration, with hundreds of creations already live on Workshop.

Timberborn is in early access on PC via Steam now.
