Summary
- Assassin’s Creed grew from a stealth series into a major crossover franchise across genres.
- Ezio recurs as skins, playable fighters, and even adorable Astro Bot diorama cameos.
- Crossovers span cosmetic DLC to full events in Fortnite, FF15, Monster Hunter, and Brawlhalla.
Early in the 2000s, many games focused on stealth. The first trailer for Assassin’s Creed seemed decent, mainly because of its cool climbing and movement, but it didn’t stand out. However, the game became truly unique when it was revealed that the story connected the past and present, with players experiencing historical events through a character’s genetic memory.
Since its debut in 2007, *Assassin’s Creed* has become incredibly popular. The second game really sparked a dedicated fanbase, and the series has continued to thrive ever since. Many companies were eager to partner with Ubisoft, often through shared costumes or character skins, to benefit from the franchise’s success. While there have been numerous *Assassin’s Creed* crossovers, the following examples are particularly noteworthy.
Astro Bot
A New Update For 2025
Astro Bot came out in 2024 and has been consistently updated with fresh challenges. These updates usually add at least one new playable robot based on characters from other games – for example, Ezio from Assassin’s Creed 2 was included in an update released in 2025.
After you save the character, you’ll unlock a little scene showing them landing in a haystack. While it’s not a major addition to the *Assassin’s Creed* games, it’s really cute to see characters from different games, including *Assassin’s Creed*, appear as charming robots in *Astro Bot’s* world.
Brawlhalla
A Free Smash Clone
Many games have tried to copy the style of *Super Smash Bros.*, and these are now generally called “Platform Fighting Games.” While some, like *PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale*, received a lot of attention, others, such as *Brawlhalla*, steadily built a loyal following. *Brawlhalla* started in 2017 with its own unique characters, but after Ubisoft invested in the game, it also began including characters from other franchises.
In 2022, Ezio, a popular character from Assassin’s Creed 2, joined the game with a complete set of moves. While his stealth abilities weren’t fully utilized, he was still an enjoyable character to play in the platform fighter Brawlhalla. Other characters added from different franchises include Rayman, Finn from Adventure Time, and Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2.
Final Fantasy 15
I Love Assassin’s Creed!
The *Final Fantasy* and *Assassin’s Creed* series have crossed over a couple of times. Initially, players could buy *Assassin’s Creedthemed costumes for *Final Fantasy 13-2*, but these were purely cosmetic. A more significant crossover happened in *Final Fantasy 15* with the Assassin’s Festival, an event where characters openly expressed their fondness for the *Assassin’s Creed* games, playfully acknowledging the fact that they were in a game.
The special event temporarily transformed Lestallum into a festival area with opportunities for both stealth and mini-games. While fun, *Assassin’s Creed Origins* offered a more exciting experience: players could earn *Final Fantasy* equipment for Bayek, ride a unique mount resembling a Chocobo, and encounter *Final Fantasy* characters like Ardyn while exploring Egypt.
Fortnite
The Ultimate Crossover Platform
Fortnite began as a cooperative game where players worked together to fight off waves of enemies. It then evolved into the popular Battle Royale format, and its success has made Fortnite famous for bringing different games and franchises together. It seems like almost every game or movie eventually appears within Fortnite, and Assassin’s Creed is the latest example.
I was so excited when Ezio’s outfit from Assassin’s Creed 2 came to Fortnite in 2022! They also added skins for both male and female versions of Eivor from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that same year. It’s a little strange seeing these classic assassins running around with guns, but honestly, it just makes Fortnite even more fun and unique!
Monster Hunter World
Become A Stealthy Hunter
Unlike the upcoming *Monster Hunter Wilds*, *Monster Hunter World* featured many crossover events with popular franchises like *Mega Man*, *Horizon Zero Dawn*, *Final Fantasy*, and *Assassin’s Creed*. For example, players could earn costumes inspired by *Assassin’s Creed Origins*.
Players could customize their hunter armor to resemble the robes worn by Bayek in *Assassin’s Creed Origins*, and even craft a special hood that improved abilities like speed or stealth. However, unlike a similar collaboration with *Final Fantasy 15*, *Assassin’s Creed Origins* didn’t receive any content in return from *Monster Hunter World*.
Soulcalibur 5
Choose Your Fighter
The *Soulcalibur* fighting game series is known for including guest characters from other franchises, and these appearances aren’t always a perfect fit. For instance, *Soulcalibur 4* featured Yoda and Darth Vader from *Star Wars*, though this varied depending on which gaming system you played it on. *Soulcalibur 5* had a more fitting guest character with Ezio from *Assassin’s Creed 2*.
I’ve always loved the *Soulcalibur* series, and it was so cool when they added Ezio from *Assassin’s Creed* as a playable character! He fights with those awesome hidden blades, but honestly, they didn’t quite have the range of some of the other characters, like Nightmare with his massive sword. Because of that, Ezio ended up playing more like a close-up fighter, which was fun, but he wasn’t really a top pick for competitive tournaments. He was good, just not *quite* as powerful as some of the others.
Toy Soldiers: War Chest
Control An Army Of Ezios
Toy Soldiers: War Chest is an action strategy game with a fun premise: what if your backyard toys came to life and battled each other? While the idea of toys at war isn’t brand new-it existed before the movie *Toy Story* made it famous-it still works really well as a video game concept.
An unexpected crossover brought Ezio from *Assassin’s Creed* into a *Toy Soldiers* downloadable content pack. Players could create armies of Ezio to attack and defend their bases, making it a surprisingly unusual appearance for the character. *Toy Soldiers* has also featured crossovers with franchises like *G.I. Joe* and *He-Man*, which fit the game’s playful, toy-themed world a little better.
