Todd Howard Didn’t Want Troy Baker to Play Indiana Jones

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Troy Baker being cast as Indiana Jones is nothing short of a dream come true. The man has voiced some of the most iconic characters in gaming history, and his addition to this legendary franchise is a match made in heaven.

In approximately a month, you’ll have Indiana Jones and The Great Circle ready to play on various devices, including consoles. Bethesda Game Studios unveiled this new Indiana Jones adventure over a year ago, and they announced that the role of Indy would be taken by Troy Baker.

Conversely, as the game’s release date approached, Todd Howard from Bethesda expressed reservations about casting the well-known actor for the main part.

‘People Chose You Every Time’

Troy Baker is widely recognized as a highly experienced voice actor, having lent his talents to numerous acclaimed video games such as BioShock, Shadow of Mordor, The Last of Us, and inFamous. His versatile career spans multiple projects, demonstrating his extensive industry involvement over many years.

Recently, I had the good fortune to discuss a cutting-edge cyberpunk undertaking with Troy Baker – an exciting development in his career!

Initially, it appeared as though teaming up Baker with Jones was a no-brainer, given that the actor’s work tends to result in pure gold. However, Todd Howard, a high-ranking executive at Bethesda Game Studios, initially balked at the idea of recruiting Baker.

According to an article in Rolling Stone, Todd Howard and Troy Baker shared their thoughts on the same page in a report. It turned out that they had never met before discussing the role of Indiana Jones, during which Todd Howard directly told Troy over a video call that he ‘wasn’t what they were looking for’.

This was despite audiences reacting positively to Baker’s performances:

Howard mentioned that when it came to selecting actors for this project and the era it was based on, they had a broad approach in their search. He added an interesting fact: during a blind audition, participants consistently picked you as their top choice.

In the end, the decision was made by the team, including Todd Howard, to recruit Troy Baker for portraying the renowned treasure seeker.
