Tomb Raider Co-Creator Prefers New Chapters Over Remake

One of the original creators of Tomb Raider has shared his thoughts on the upcoming remake, Legacy of Atlantis, stating he’s more excited about seeing the series move forward with fresh stories.

The Game Awards 2025 was great news for Tomb Raider fans! Two new games were announced: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, coming in 2026, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, planned for release in 2027. You can also find comments from one of the original creators about the upcoming remake.

Tomb Raider Co-Creator Says He’d Prefer Exploring New Lost Worlds Over “Another Remake/Remaster/Reimagining)

Paul Douglas, a co-creator of Tomb Raider, shared his thoughts on the remake announcement via BlueSky. As reported by Core Design on X (formerly Twitter) through TheGamer, Douglas commented, “She’s back apparently,” but admitted he’d rather see new adventures created than revisit the original games. He explained he’d prefer “exploring new lost worlds than another remake/remaster/reimagining of something we crafted under intense duress in the 90’s.” Douglas ended his post with, “Dinosaurs will always be cool though…,” and included a dinosaur drawing.

He then reacted to the announcement of Tomb Raider: Catalyst, excitedly saying, “We get the best of both worlds…” along with an Indian flag and dinosaur emojis. Douglas later added that he was eager to play both new games, praising their incredible visuals – something that wouldn’t have been possible 30 years ago. He finished by saying they’ll have to wait and see if the games are as fun and adventurous to play as they look.
