Crystal Dynamics is making Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis more accessible to today’s gamers by adjusting the difficulty. Many who played the original remember it being very challenging.
The Game Awards 2025 brought exciting news for fans of the original Tomb Raider: a complete remake called Legacy of Atlantis is coming in 2026. While the game is being rebuilt from scratch, the developers have hinted that it might not be quite as challenging as the first Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis to Receive a Difficulty Adjustment
When asked about difficulty in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics developer Will Kerslake explained that they’re updating the game to better suit modern players. He noted that the original game had some frustrating instant-death moments and other issues, and they’re addressing those as part of the remake process.
Don’t worry, though, the heart of what makes a Tomb Raider game great isn’t going anywhere. We’re still going to have puzzles to solve while fighting and exploring, plus all that crazy, over-the-top action you’d expect. And yeah, we’re definitely bringing back the iconic rolling ball sequences – you’ll get plenty of that classic Tomb Raider stuff!
The Anniversary edition of Tomb Raider addressed the original game’s challenging difficulty by including quick-time events, which helped players survive otherwise instantly fatal moments.
Here’s the latest on Tomb Raider: Catalyst – you won’t need to brush up on previous games to enjoy it! Plus, one of the original game’s creators would rather see new stories than remakes of old ones. We’re also curious to hear what you think about a possible difficulty adjustment for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
