Nintendo just dropped a new trailer for its life simulation game, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The trailer gives a good overview of what you can do in the game, shows off some brand-new features, and explains a few things in more detail. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will be available everywhere on April 16, 2026.
The latest installment in the Tomodachi series is a follow-up to Tomodachi Collection (released only in Japan on the Nintendo DS) and Tomodachi Life (which came to the Nintendo 3DS worldwide in 2014). Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream marks the first new Tomodachi game in over ten years. Fans have eagerly awaited a sequel, and Living the Dream appears poised to meet their expectations.
New Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Overview Trailer Expands on Features
I just watched the new trailer for Living the Dream, and it’s a great way to get a feel for what the game’s all about if you haven’t played anything like it before. It shows how you create your Miis and share them with friends, and basically everything you can do to build up your island. Oh, and the best part? The demo for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is available right now on the Nintendo eShop! I’m downloading it as we speak.
Mechanics Shown in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Overview Trailer
- Mii creation
- “Get help” step-by-step option and “From scratch” option
- Face paint to use stamps or drawing to further edit Miis
- Solving Mii problems
- Clothing and house customization
- Relationship building between Miis
- The player can now manually introduce Miis instead of waiting for them to randomly ask to meet
- Friendship, marriage and children
- Shops
- Item and building customization at Palette House
- Island customization
- Happiness level-up gifts
- Miis living together
- Local wireless features
- Mii and custom item sharing
Many of the features in this game have appeared in previous Tomodachi games, and fans are happy to see them return. However, players are concerned that the Concert Hall, which was a popular feature in the 3DS version, won’t be included, as it hasn’t been shown yet with less than a month until release. A new addition to Mii customization is face paint, which will allow for more creative and imaginative islander designs. While the 2021 Switch version of Miitopia had a makeup system, this new feature lets players directly draw on their Mii’s face, making it simpler to create exactly what they envision.
With Living the Dream, the Tomodachi series is taking customization to a new level, going far beyond the simple Miis of previous games. Unlike the first two Tomodachi titles, this installment lets you customize your island, a feature that proved popular in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The new Palette House feature offers players an unprecedented amount of control over the game, allowing even custom food creation – something Animal Crossing didn’t even allow!
The Nintendo Switch and its upcoming successor, the Nintendo Switch 2, are perfect for players who enjoy relaxing games. Animal Crossing: New Horizons became incredibly popular in 2020 and continues to receive updates, even as recently as this January. Stardew Valley helped revitalize the farming simulator genre. And this month, Pokemon Pokopia delighted Pokemon fans so much that it quickly became the highest-rated game in the Pokemon series. With the upcoming release of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the Switch’s collection of cozy games will grow even stronger, and early previews suggest it will be a fantastic game in its own right.
