Summary
- Female villains in seinen manga are complex, nuanced, and far from conventional stereotypes.
- From power-hungry royalty to vengeful warriors, these women bring depth to their stories.
- Seinen manga offers diverse and compelling female villains with unique motivations and impact.
One of the standout aspects of these “mangas for men” is their intricate plots and multi-dimensional characters. In these narratives, situations are seldom clear-cut, similar to real-life complexities. Consequently, it’s uncommon to find traditional good-versus-evil stories in seinen manga, let alone a well-defined female antagonist.
After diligently sifting through countless seinen series, I stumbled upon a handful of exceptional female antagonists tucked away in some of the genre’s most prominent action titles. These characters serve as either the main villain or just one of the story’s adversaries. Here are ten outstanding female villains in seinen manga, ranked according to the MyAnimeList score of their respective series.
10. Holy Mother Zora
The Corrupted Heroine

- Manga Title: Choujin X
- MyAnimeList Score: 7.45
- First Appearance: Chapter 14
Prior to the commencement of Choujin X, a devastating war raged among powerful Choujins, claiming many lives, both human and ordinary Choujin. Leading this battle was Zora, then known as Sora Siruha, who confronted the most wicked Choujin – the War Choujin. Remarkably, Zora emerged victorious from this conflict.
Few recognized that the war had a profound psychological impact on Sora, as it gradually overwhelmed her with her immense power and led to her losing her identity. Today, she is known as the grotesque figure called the Holy Mother Zora, who seeks destruction in pursuit of what she believes is true peace.
9. Malty S. Melromarc
The Cruel And Deceitful Princess

- Manga Title: The Rising of the Shield Hero
- MyAnimeList Score: 7.74
- First Appearance: Chapter 1
Princess Malty S. Melromarc hails from the esteemed nation of Melromarc, yet she stands out as a self-centered, vain, pompous, deceitful, cruel, and oppressive individual despite her noble title. She holds herself in high regard and often looks down upon others with contempt.
I’ve come across individuals like Malty who have no qualms about deceiving and backstabbing others for personal gain, and she proves to be exactly that when she encounters Naofumi. Under the guise of friendship, she ultimately swindles his resources and falsely accuses him of impropriety.
8. Tyuule
The Fallen Warrior Queen

- Manga Title: Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There
- MyAnimeList Score: 7.82
- First Appearance: Chapter 28
Once upon a time, Tyuule was the esteemed queen of the fierce Warrior Bunny tribe, renowned for their formidable battle skills. Unfortunately, due to an unfortunate misunderstanding, her people abandoned Tyuule. To make matters worse, she was compelled to serve as a slave under the tyrannical crown prince of the Empire.
The string of unfortunate and shameful occurrences transformed Tyuule from a noble warrior into a resentful and vindictive schemer. Leveraging her proximity to the crown prince, she stirs up discord and suspicion within the Empire. Notably, it was she who orchestrated the conflict between the Empire and the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, with the ultimate goal of annihilating both sides.
7. Reiko Tamura
The Heartless Maneater

- Manga Title: Parasyte
- MyAnimeList Score: 8.37
- First Appearance: Chapter 5
Reiko Tamura is among numerous individuals whose brains were devoured by an enigmatic parasite, similar to others, her transformation led her to become a beast that requires human flesh for its survival.
Reiko stands out among other parasites due to her exceptional intelligence. She seamlessly blends into human society to gather insights about humanity, which aids her in hunting more effectively. She holds a callous disregard for both humans and fellow parasites. Her primary concerns are ensuring her own survival and satisfying her curiosity. If necessary, she won’t hesitate to kill and consume anyone to meet these objectives.
6. Eto Yoshimura
The One-Eyed Owl

- Manga Title: Tokyo Ghoul
- MyAnimeList Score: 8.53
- First Appearance: Chapter 54
In the world of Ghouls, it’s whispered about an extraordinary being, half-human, half-Ghoul – a unique hybrid with eyes of two contrasting colors and strength surpassing typical Ghouls. I happen to be observing someone who is said to embody this legend, going by the name Eto Yoshimura.
Under the moniker of the One-Eyed Owl, Eto brutally ascends to the highest position in the food chain, utilizing her might to exterminate any ghoul or Ghoul Investigator who dares challenge her. Throughout her reign of terror, she is believed to have devoured countless numbers of both ghouls and humans.
5. Suirei
The Silent Mastermind

- Manga Title: The Apothecary Diaries
- MyAnimeList Score: 8.64
- First Appearance: Chapter 22
Suirei was previously a servant in the Outer Court, specifically within the militaristic sector of the royal palace compound. She is a reticent woman who not only enjoys solitude, but even takes extra steps to camouflage her real visage using cosmetics.
In a twist of events, it was revealed that Suirei orchestrated numerous perilous incidents within the palace, including poisoning the Minister of Ritual Implements and an assassination attempt on the Emperor’s younger brother. However, Maomao managed to expose her devious plan, but in a dramatic turn, Suirei took her own life with a deadly substance. What nobody knew at the time was that this mysterious concoction merely induced a death-like state in Suirei. Later on, when no one was paying attention, she awoke from her coma and fled the palace.
4. Noi
The Easygoing Mass Murderer

- Manga Title: Dorohedoro
- MyAnimeList Score: 8.68
- First Appearance: Chapter 4
As an onlooker, I find myself observing a unique individual named Noi, a skilled magic user who serves as a cleaner under the command of En, the notorious leader of the En Family. The cleaner’s role, in essence, involves eliminating, tormenting, and questioning anyone who dares challenge the En Family. Accompanying Noi in this line of work is her long-standing companion, Shin. Interestingly enough, En happens to be Noi’s older cousin.
In a more straightforward and less dramatic manner: Noi is someone who can cold-bloodedly kill many people, followed by enjoying a hearty meal of steak. This makes her appear remarkably casual about her villainous actions. There’s no underlying motive or master plan driving her violent acts; she simply finds them enjoyable, often doing so with companions like family and friends.
3. Psykos
The Woman Who Created The Monster King

- Manga Title: One-Punch Man
- MyAnimeList Score: 8.72
- First Appearance: Chapter 66
Among the toughest trials the Hero Association has encountered, one stands out: when monsters unite under an organization known as the Monster Association. This situation arises due to the being who leads this association, claimed to be the strongest monster globally – the Monster King Orochi. However, could it be that he is merely perceived as such?
It’s actually Psykos who orchestrates everything, not just managing the vast Monster Association but also inventing the first Monster King Orochi. Her intellect is truly terrifying, and she’s physically powerful too – one of the strongest Espers globally, surpassed only by Tatsumaki, the S-Class Rank 2 hero known as the Tornado of Terror.
2. Bi Ki
The Ruthless Queen Mother

- Manga Title: Kingdom
- MyAnimeList Score: 9.01
- First Appearance: Chapter 183
Bi Ki was once an ordinary girl with dreams of love, later becoming the Queen Mother of the kingdom Qin, due to her son Ei Sei’s throne. However, before ascending to the highest rank in this war-torn nation, Bi Ki experienced a life filled with hardship and misfortune – from being forced into prostitution to being labeled as a traitor.
In my observation, such hardships never dampen her spirit; instead, they ignite her aspiration for dominance and impact. From deceit to manipulation to acts beyond the ordinary, she’s determined to scale the greatest heights of power within the nation. And once crowned as the Queen Mother, I suspect she will push the boundaries even further to preserve her status.
1. Slan
The Sovereign Of Demonkind

- Manga Title: Berserk
- MyAnimeList Score: 9.47
- First Appearance: Chapter 6
Slan belongs to the God Hand, an elite group of demon rulers whose mission is to sow chaos and misery across the world. As such, she is a particularly malevolent figure in the storyline. Additionally, she is also a succubus, deriving enjoyment from watching others succumb to despair. Consequently, she, along with her fellow God Hand members, is often linked to numerous tragic events that claim the lives of countless innocent souls.
Apart from being a member of the God Hand, Slan is followed by a devoted cult whose actions, regardless of how morally reprehensible or perilous, are at her command. Within this cult, she is revered as the Flame Goddess. From committing murder to participating in cannibalistic rites, Slan’s followers will go to any lengths to appease her.
