Top 10 Lowest-Rated Games Of 2025

2025 was a fantastic year for video games, filled with exciting new releases and memorable adventures. However, even with so many great games, not every one was a success.

With the year winding down, now’s a good time to examine games that didn’t quite succeed. The goal isn’t to focus on what was bad, but to learn from those failures and make sure future games are better.

If you’re curious about the worst video games of 2025 – which ones didn’t live up to expectations, or which ones you might want to avoid – here’s a rundown of the ten lowest-rated titles.

Top 10 Lowest-Rated Games Released In 2025

This list is based on scores from Metacritic. To be included, a game had to be released in 2025 and receive at least seven reviews from critics. Please consider this when looking at the games featured.

10. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

Metascore: 54

Okay, so I checked out Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and honestly, it felt a little… strange. It’s less of a full game and more like a way to show off what the new Switch 2 can do. It’s got a few fun little minigames, which were cool, and it definitely gives you a good look at all the system’s new features. It felt more like a tech demo you pay for, if I’m being honest!

The biggest issue is whether it’s worth the price. Many players wondered why it wasn’t included with the console itself, like the free game Astro’s Playroom on PlayStation 5. As a separate purchase, it’s hard to suggest – and unfortunately, that’s why it’s considered one of the weakest games of 2025.

9. RENNSPORT

Metascore: 53

Rennsport initially seems like a solid racing game, boasting precise controls, realistic engine sounds, and a reasonable number of tracks. However, it quickly becomes clear that it doesn’t quite measure up to the more comprehensive experiences offered by leading titles in the genre.

When the game was released at a high price, players were very disappointed with the limited amount of content. Compared to games like Gran Turismo, RENNSPORT felt incomplete – more like a trial version than a complete racing game, which is why it received so many negative reviews.

8. Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection

Metascore: 53

Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection always faced an uphill battle. The collection is well-made and faithfully recreates the original games, but it can’t overcome the fact that those original games weren’t very good to begin with.

This collection stays very close to the original games, which unfortunately doesn’t make it very enjoyable for players today. While it includes a few helpful additions and accessibility features, the four games themselves are generally poor, ranging from just okay to truly bad. It’s a sincere attempt to preserve these classics, but that honesty is ultimately why it’s considered one of the worst releases of 2025.

7. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact

Metascore: 53

While Hunter x Hunter fans will likely be excited to see the series adapted into a fighting game, Nen x Impact isn’t without its flaws. It has the potential to be a great fighting game, but several issues hold it back.

The game’s limited number of characters, weak single-player mode, and awkward online play hold it back from being truly great. Unless you’re a big fan of the series, you’ll probably find better fighting games to play.

6. Neptunia Riders VS Dogoos

Metascore: 51

While Hunter x Hunter appeals to dedicated fans, Neptunia Riders VS Dogoos is really only for those who already love the series. It’s a short game – only about three hours long – and filled with bugs and technical problems, so it’s unlikely to win over new players.

The game has some enjoyable moments that fans of the series will recognize, with its usual humor and lightheartedness. However, it doesn’t offer enough meaningful content to justify its high price, which unfortunately makes the overall experience disappointing.

5. Captain Blood

Metascore: 50

Back in the early 2000s, Captain Blood might have gained a small, dedicated following. However, looking at it now, its problems are much more noticeable, and it’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the worst games released this year.

The game gets old fast, with sounds that feel incomplete and a general lack of refinement that really hurts the experience. If you’re really looking for a classic PlayStation 2-style action game, this might satisfy you, but surprisingly, many games from that time are actually better made.

4. Scar-Lead Salvation

Metascore: 44

Scar-Lead Salvation clearly takes a lot from Returnal, which is why it’s frustrating that it doesn’t deliver the same exciting experience. The game feels like a lackluster roguelike, held back by awkward movements and a lack of diverse enemies.

Okay, so I’m not a fan of how the main character loses clothes when they get hurt – it just feels really obvious what the game is trying to do. And honestly, even the attempts to make things sexy don’t cover up how frustrating the game actually is underneath it all. It just doesn’t quite work!

3. Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator

Metascore: 44

Simulation games can be tricky to evaluate – they’re either exceptionally well-made or seriously flawed. Sadly, Ambulance Life appears to be one of the weaker titles of 2025, currently receiving very low ratings.

This game tries to capture the fast-paced, stressful environment of emergency services, but it unfortunately falls short in almost every way. Ironically, you’d probably have a better chance of helping someone in a real emergency by staying away from this game altogether.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Metascore: 43

Tamagotchis were hugely popular, but the new Tamagotchi Plaza doesn’t quite capture what people loved about the originals. Much of the charm that made the virtual pets so endearing is missing in this version.

The game just doesn’t offer much to do. The world feels lifeless and the small games aren’t enjoyable or meaningful. Like those old virtual pets, you might quickly lose interest and want to stop playing.

1. MindsEye

Metascore: 37

MindsEye had a lot of promise, especially with Leslie Benzies—a well-known developer from the popular Grand Theft Auto series—leading the project. People were excited and hoped he could use his experience to create something truly innovative in the gaming world, but it seems things didn’t quite work out as planned.

The launch of MindsEye was a complete mess. The game was plagued with bugs and technical problems, making it nearly unplayable for a lot of people. Even ignoring those issues, the gameplay felt uninspired and the story was dull, leaving many to question why the game was even made.
