Top 10 Strategy and Wargaming News Of This Week – 11th January

Hey there fellow gamers!

I’ve noticed you all seem to enjoy list-style updates, so I thought I’d give it a go and transform these weekly news updates into a digestible list format. The question is, will this change make them more appealing? Or should I stick with the weekly updates and perhaps switch to monthly ones instead?

As always, I hope you enjoy the updated news digest. Let me know what you think in the comments! 💬

10 – Builders of Egypt Comes Out After Long Development

As a gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Builders of Egypt, but after diving in, I find myself disappointed with its 47% review rating on Steam. The main issues seem to revolve around the game’s user interface, which isn’t as intuitive as I’d hoped, and there are occasional performance glitches that disrupt my gaming experience. To put it simply, I’m left feeling underwhelmed by the game, a sentiment echoed frequently by other players.

9 – Armoured Commander II Still Getting Updates

In terms of tank simulations available in 2025, Gunner, HEAT, PC might be a visual delight, but it pales in comparison to the wealth of content offered by Armored Commander II, created by Gregory Adam Scott. This self-made project continues to receive free updates more than four years after its initial release on September 2021. As recent as January 5th, the BT-42 was added as a playable vehicle within the context of the Finnish Continuation War. Can you think of another genre that offers such gems?

8 – Total War Ditches Launcher

At long last, the Total War launcher – a common feature among publishers back then – is bidding farewell, and we’re relieved, as it frequently malfunctioned beyond repair, except when managing mods.

7 – Gunner, HEAT, PC! Infantry Update

I hadn’t brought up Gunner, HEAT, PC for some time, mainly because it slipped my mind. However, when I noticed it in my Steam news feed, having been updated with infantry integration in late November, and a new patch released on Christmas day, I was quite taken aback! The inclusion of these virtual humans adds an interesting twist to the gameplay, as they can pose a significant threat to tanks, armed with RPGs and LAWs. Interestingly, these infantry units will not only attack tanks but also engage in combat among themselves on the battlefield, making other infantry formations more complex to manage due to their propensity for internecine conflict.

6 – Songs of Silence Out Now

This post could be titled “Firaxis News – Things That Slipped My Notice Edition.” Additionally, Songs of Silence has been released and it’s truly an eclectic mix: it combines turn-based tactics with card games and RPG elements. However, its real-time battles draw inspiration from auto-battler games like Teamfight Tactics and Auto Chess. Honestly, I can’t quite put it into words, so just watch the trailer to get a better idea! The game certainly looks visually appealing.
