Summary
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the top-selling game in 2024.
- Half of the top 20 are sports titles, surprising old games still sell well.
- Numerous Sony games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are on the list.
In case you’re curious about which other games make up the top 20 best-sellers annually, apart from Call of Duty, you’ll be glad to know that the research organization Circana (previously known as NPD) has recently released a list of the highest-selling premium (meaning paid) video games from the year 2024.
Predictably, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 claims the number one position, but the remaining spots are harder to predict. A notable trend is the abundance of sports games, a reflection of the strong preference American gamers have for these types of games.
Top 20 Best-Selling Games Of 2024 Features A Lot Of PlayStation Games
mat Piscatella, the Executive Director and Video Game Analyst at Circana, unveiled the list. Keep in mind that this list includes only premium games, meaning it might not show the games that brought in the most revenue for a particular company.

Approximately 10 out of the 20 titles listed are related to sports. It’s quite astonishing that games like Hogwarts Legacy, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto V, which some might consider “old”, continue to sell in large numbers. It’s also no surprise that there’s more than one Call of Duty game on the list.
It’s no wonder that Black Ops 6 claimed the number one position for the year, considering it was the highest-grossing game in the previous month.
Among all the titles listed, I found it particularly striking to see so many Sony exclusives like Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. If these games were multiplatform, their popularity might have placed them even higher on the list.
Although neither Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth nor Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have officially been confirmed for Xbox releases (but there are whispers that it might happen), both games are set to be available on PC platforms. In fact, FF7 Rebirth was launched on PC this very week, and Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to arrive on Steam on January 30.
