Summary
- Prioritize upgrading Endure in Citizen Sleeper 2 for handling dangerous environments and physical feats.
- The Engineer stat may not be crucial, but early upgrades are beneficial for fixing machinery.
- Consider investing in Interface for tech tasks in Citizen Sleeper 2.
Players who finished the game Citizen Sleeper might recall finding themselves versatile, despite initially planning a specific character build. As the final missions on Erlin’s Eye’s map approached, it became evident that through necessity rather than lack of effectiveness or enjoyment, all those skill points had to be allocated somewhere, resulting in a jack-of-all-trades character.
In the sequel to “Citizen Sleeper”, titled “Starward Vector”, the concept of skill points remains, but has been restructured. Now, these points can be allocated towards enhancing a Sleeper’s attributes and boosting their Push ability. It’s important to note that these upgrades come at a higher cost compared to the original game, so having a clear strategy when spending your skill points is advisable. For newcomers aiming to design their Sleeper effectively, here are the stats you should focus on first, listed from most crucial to least:
1. Prioritize this stat above all others for a strong foundation.
2. This stat plays a significant role in various aspects of gameplay and should not be neglected.
3. A well-rounded Sleeper benefits from investing in this area.
4. While less essential, improving this stat can still offer notable advantages.
5. Endure
It’s Gonna Come Up A Lot

In the initial stages of the game, the stat you’ll encounter frequently is called Endure. This stat gauges a Sleeper’s capacity to withstand harsh working conditions, tackle tough tasks demanding sustained strength, or attempt risky physical stunts. The Extractor class comes equipped with this stat already enhanced, making it the most convenient starting class for new players in Citizen Sleeper 2.
As a film enthusiast, I’d rephrase it like this: In the game, you’ll find team members who can handle Endurance tasks for you. At the beginning of the story, Serafin is equipped with this ability, but he gets hurt in an initial mission and is temporarily unavailable. Later on, when you reach Far Spindle, you’ll encounter Yu-Jin, a character who can join your team once you complete his assignment. However, if you don’t have the Endurance stat at the start of the game, there will be several missions that you’ll need to bypass until you either acquire it or find an alternative solution.
4. Engineer
It’ll Be A While Before Anyone Else Can Pick Up The Slack

The Engineer skill is quite amusing. It determines a Sleeper’s capacity to mend, maintain, or jam machinery, and it also factors into some dialogue challenges later on. Initially, the Machinist class begins with a more enhanced Engineer skill, but it’s not overly crucial during the early phases of the game since there are usually alternative duties that players can perform which rely on different skill checks. This means that players should always have other methods to complete tasks without relying solely on the Engineer skill.
Why should we upgrade early in the game? There are two main reasons. Firstly, it takes some time before players can recruit crew members who can pass an Engineer check. Although they will eventually encounter Bliss at Far Spindle, she won’t join their crew until after they advance a bit farther in the game. Secondly, while the Engineer stat isn’t essential, there are still many opportunities to use it effectively, making it a valuable primary stat that can greatly benefit players even if it’s not absolutely necessary for success.
3. Interface
The Backup Plan

For those who prefer not to specialize as a bruiser character by putting their skill points into Endure, an alternative choice could be the Interface ability. This skill determines how efficiently the Sleeper can interact with computers and technology, disarm surveillance systems, or analyze data. Notably, the Operator class begins with Interface already upgraded, however, this class is unable to access the Engage stat, which means any dice rolls they attempt for an Endure check will be lowered by 2. Consequently, the Operator presents the most challenging starting class in Citizen Sleeper 2.
As a player, I find that investing in Interface is beneficial because in roughly 75% of Engage tasks presented, there’s an option for an Interface task instead. These tasks are less risky, reducing stress buildup, but they also slow down the pace of completion. Building around Interface can be tricky at first, but it proves useful as the game progresses. If I choose to take a different path in my build, recruiting Juni provides a crew member with an enhanced Interface stat.
2. Engage
Less Talk More Rock… But Also More Talk

As a passionate moviegoer, let me tell you that none of us have an advantage when it comes to the “Engage” skill at the start; it’s not pre-upgraded. However, the Machinist character finds themselves in a predicament where they’re entirely barred from enhancing it, and if they dare attempt an “Engage” task, their dice will suffer a two-point deduction.
The “Engage” skill essentially serves as our substitute for a combat stat in the game. When faced with an “Engage” check, the Sleeper character can swiftly spring into action, taking down a few enemies. Moreover, mastering this skill bestows upon them a knack for smooth-talking and eloquence that proves beneficial when dealing with dialogue checks.
Engage is a unique ability that doesn’t frequently come into play but shines in critical moments, particularly when time is of the essence rather than safety. It’s not without merit; it can prove to be a lifesaver in certain scenarios where quick action is required before things take a turn for the worse. However, its impact pales in comparison to the previous three stats. Notably, characters like Serafin, Femi, and Yu-Jin possess this skill, providing players with multiple strategies when faced with an Engage check, regardless of whether they’ve boosted the stat themselves.
1. Intuit
Just Figure It Out
![](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/citizen-sleeper-2-nia.jpg)
As a movie reviewer, I’d say that, just like in the film Engage, none of the characters begin with an enhanced Intuition skill at the outset. However, the Extractor finds themselves at a distinct disadvantage as they are entirely barred from using Intuition, which results in a 2-point deduction whenever they attempt to use this skill. Intuition, in essence, serves the same purpose as Intelligence does, enabling the Sleeper to grasp concepts swiftly, perceive subtle details, or rely on their instincts. Despite its usefulness, opportunities to employ these abilities are somewhat scarce.
In most situations, you won’t find a lot of instances where the Intuit stat is crucial, and even fewer pivotal moments that truly test a Sleeper’s Intuit ability. However, it may prove useful when working at a Hub or during certain side objectives in a Contract mission. Rarely is it indispensable in any given scenario. Fortunately, Nia can be recruited early on in Hexport, offering an enhanced Intuit stat that players can utilize instead of their own. In case you miss Nia, there’s always the option to recruit Bliss once you reach Far Spindle, who is also capable of performing Intuit checks.
