As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but be thrilled about the unique experience that Elden Ring Nightreign promises to deliver, something never before seen in FromSoftware’s repertoire. Although co-operative play has been a staple in their games for years, Elden Ring Nightreign is the first time they are fully embracing it as the central focus. This is just one of the many ways that Nightreign distinguishes itself from the traditional FromSoft action-RPG mold.
In simpler terms, “Elden Ring Nightreign” is essentially a cooperative roguelike game with some battle royale aspects. As FromSoftware experiments with this new format, they are reintroducing familiar characters and bosses from their previous games to balance the experience. The reveal trailer for “Nightreign” hints that some well-known bosses will appear in the game, and there’s a possibility that classic weapons might return as well.
FromSoftware Weapons That Should Return in Elden Ring Nightreign
The Moonlight Greatsword
In nearly every game produced by FromSoftware since their debut in 1994 with “King’s Field,” the Moonlight Greatsword has been a recurring element. It would be intriguing if Elden Ring Nightreign, being a separate spinoff, introduces a fresh take on FromSoftware’s most recognizable weapon.
Elden Ring’s Rivers of Blood
In the game Elden Ring, there are more than 300 different weapons, and one of the most notorious is called Rivers of Blood. This Katana can perform both cutting and piercing attacks, but it’s famous for its excessive bleeding damage and potent Ash of War. Since the launch of Elden Ring in 2022, the Rivers of Blood has undergone significant toning down, but it would be exciting to see it regain its former strength in the PvE-centric expansion called Elden Ring Nightreign.
Bloodborne’s Saw Cleaver
In Bloodborne, while there are fewer weapons compared to Elden Ring or the Dark Souls series, many fans believe these weapons stand out because they allow for significant changes in movesets during combat. For instance, the Saw Cleaver in Bloodborne might not be the most efficient ‘Trick Weapon’, but it holds a special place, and its inclusion in Elden Ring Nightreign would resonate deeply with fans of the 2015 game.
Dark Souls 3’s Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords
In the game Dark Souls 3, the weapon selection wasn’t perfectly balanced compared to FromSoftware’s past games, but it did offer a wide range of build options for players. The Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords in Dark Souls 3 are a fantastic representation of the game’s diverse weaponry, enabling players to stylishly wield two massive flaming metal swords as a pair. Reminiscent of the Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords, Radahn’s Starscourge and DLC Greatswords can be seen as spiritual successors, but they demand multiple playthroughs before you can dual-wield them.
Dark Souls’ Dragonslayer Spear
The Dragonslayer Spear, frequently seen in the Dark Souls games, was the preferred weapon of Ornstein, a character renowned from the duo “Smough and Ornstein.” This spear, with its striking aesthetic, is particularly recognized for its lightning-infused attacks within the realm of Dark Souls.
Demon’s Souls’ Northern Regalia
Originally, the game “Demon’s Souls” featured the Northern Regalia sword that deserves another round of appreciation. Players can acquire this sword by merging King Allant’s Soulbrandt with Old King Doran’s Demonbrandt, a process that demands considerable player effort because both fights are challenging.
