Top 5 Must-Have Features for Risk of Rain 2’s Alloyed Collective Expansion

As a gamer, I’m buzzing with anticipation over the latest news about Risk of Rain 2, especially since Alloyed Collective has been announced! It’s no secret that the Seekers of the Storm DLC for Risk of Rain 2 didn’t have the smoothest launch, but the new dev team is showing grit and determination to make things right. Now, the expansion stands tall as a highly praised addition to the game, alongside Survivors of the Void.

In the upcoming expansion, Solus is set center stage, allowing Gearbox to delve into any concepts they find intriguing. While updates for Risk of Rain 2 aren’t typically extensive, fans are encouraging the team to take all the time necessary to create a top-notch Alloyed Collective. However, despite this, there’s still plenty of speculation brewing, with numerous ideas swirling around like tiny Empathy Cores.

A New and Returning Survivor in Risk of Rain 2’s Alloyed Collective

Earlier in the game “Risk of Rain 1”, Seekers of the Storm introduced Chef back into play. Many theories about the upcoming expansion suggest that character HAN-D might reappear in “Risk of Rain 2’s” Alloyed Collective. Some fans think the final scene showing a Drone being captured is a telltale sign of HAN-D, given his fondness for using Drones as weapons. Since the expansion focuses on exploring and expanding Drones with new customization and build options, HAN-D could be an ideal Survivor to join this lineup.

The upcoming Survivor in the game is shrouded in more mystery than previous ones. With the Solus theme, it’s plausible to guess that this character could be a salvager, someone who leverages machinery and junk for their advantage. Junk, or Scrap as it’s called in the game, has potential for further development since at present it serves only for trading items. However, there’s no reason it can’t be used for other purposes, such as being consumed to power up abilities or items. In fact, the new Survivor for Risk of Rain could hail from Solus itself. While it may sound a bit far-fetched initially, remember that there are other Survivors like Heretic who are quite unusual. A controllable floating orb would certainly make this character stand out.

The Boss of Alloyed Collective Could Be a Big Departure From the Rest of Risk of Rain 2

Among the notable features in Alloyed Collective is the introduction of a fresh endgame antagonist, sparking much curiosity about its potential identity. Prior content has predominantly revolved around the tumultuous bond between Risk of Rain 2’s Mithrix and Providence, as well as characters like False Son who worship them. However, it appears that this expansion will allow Gearbox to craft their unique narrative. Given the limited backstory on the Solus units, they offer a blank slate for designing an entirely new kind of final boss. As Gearbox hints at “redefining the endgame,” it’s not meant to be taken literally but hopefully implies a boss that transcends being merely a large adversary.

In the trailer, they’ve introduced an adversary named Solus Wing, leading some to speculate that this could be our ultimate showdown. Previously, we’ve seen the final boss unveiled ahead of release, like how Seekers of the Storm teased False Son. So, it’s plausible to think that Solus Wing might indeed be the grand finale.

Some wilder theories propose that the boss character might be a full stage, akin to the Solus Mother Unit in Risk of Rain 2’s lore, a part of the Solus faction yet unseen in the game and believed to be the origin of all Solus constructs. If this were true, players could be engaging in combat atop or within the Mother Unit itself, gradually dismantling it while being attacked by defending forces. This would certainly be a thrilling deviation from the usual gameplay.

How Alloyed Collective Could Explore the Solus More

In Siren’s Call, we were introduced to the enemies Solus and Vulture, and established their connection. On Petrichor 5, Vultures have manipulated the Solus for defense purposes, transforming a formerly neutral entity into an ally of theirs. However, the Alloyed Collective is planning to delve deeper into the Solus, revealing unique aspects that set them apart from being merely controlled by Vultures, thereby shaping their individual identity.

It’s worth noting that the Solus Mother Unit could significantly contribute to the development of Solus lore, and many players are eagerly anticipating a glimpse of this mothership, whether directly or indirectly. Regardless of its final form, the diverse array of new stages in Alloyed Collective promises an enlightening perspective on the faction.

Gearbox characterizes them as “feeling betrayed and deserted,” not originally intended to endure on this planet. Many signs observed in stage screenshots suggest that the Solus’ habitats have been devastated, filled with empty husks and drilling equipment. Some enthusiasts suspect that this is what led to such a diverse array of new Solus creations in the expansion trailer for Risk of Rain 2, as abandoned constructs modify their environments, utilizing remnants of past models to enhance themselves.

Alloyed Collective Could Improve Drones for Good

In the forthcoming update for Risk of Rain 2, drones are set to undergo a significant transformation with the introduction of a dedicated station specifically designed for tailoring drones according to different play styles. This shift is noteworthy because previously, drones in Risk of Rain 2 have been heavily reliant on random chance (RNG), requiring players to find the correct drone type, accumulate red item Spare Drone Parts, and somehow keep them all alive for a drone-centric build. This change is also remarkable as Risk of Rain 2 has limited customization options compared to other aspects of the game, such as the Lunar Bazaar, Artifacts, or lucky item drops.

In the sequel, HAN-D might develop a stronger bond with drones compared to how it was in Risk of Rain 1.

Among the upcoming drones in Risk of Rain 2, one is rumored to have a throwing capability, although it’s unclear whether this means tossing items or adversaries. With the game’s quirky physics, it’s certain that this new feature will lead to some intriguing outcomes. As there are seven drones confirmed for release, possibilities range from creating drones that provide shields to players, to ones that act as bomb drones, detonating in the presence of enemies. Regardless of their specific functions, introducing more diverse uses for drones in Risk of Rain 2, beyond just spamming The Backup, would be a fantastic addition for some Survivors.
