Top 5 Resident Evil Characters in the Most Games

Capcom is renowned for crafting some of the most enduring characters in gaming history, and they often reuse these beloved figures across multiple titles. It’s no surprise that this practice extends to their darker series, such as Resident Evil, where iconic characters like Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield can comfortably coexist with renowned figures like Mega Man from his self-titled series or Ryu from Street Fighter. Launched in 1996, the Resident Evil franchise has maintained its popularity over the years by introducing new characters and periodically reintroducing old favorites.

Instead of focusing on those who were left in the dark, such as Sheva Alomar and Carlos Oliveira, let’s explore instead the characters that have starred in the most Resident Evil games, across mainline titles, spin-offs, crossovers, and more.

This list will primarily concentrate on console and portable video games, excluding mobile games due to their difficulty in tracing, since many of them were exclusively released in Japan. Furthermore, we won’t include skins or costumes from games such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Rainbow Six Siege, and Fortnite in our count.

Rebecca Chambers debuted in the initial game, but she didn’t become a primary playable character until her own story unfolded in Resident Evil 0, released on the GameCube. In the original Resident Evil and its 2002 remake, Rebecca had a minor role to help cure Chris. Later, in another remake titled Resident Evil: Deadly Silence for the DS, players could control Rebecca during multiplayer sessions.

The video game titled “Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles” is an on-rails shooter that narrates the occurrences found in “Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil, ” and “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis“. Consequently, Rebecca emerges as a heroine in this series. She is playable in the “The Mercenaries” mode of “Resident Evil 5” and the Nintendo 3DS game titled “Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D“. To sum it up, Rebecca later became one of the playable characters in the survival horror game “Dead by Daylight” as part of a promotional crossover event.

Initially, Ada Wong made an appearance assisting Leon in the original version of Resident Evil 2. Her role grew modestly in its 2019 update. She was given her own storyline in Resident Evil 4 and its upcoming remake, where she assumed a more devious persona. In Resident Evil 6, she plays a significant part due to a duplicate of her causing chaos, but players can eventually unlock the genuine Ada’s mission.

In the games “Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles” and “Dead by Daylight”, Ada is a character you can play, similar to Rebecca. For online gameplay, she’s also a playable character in “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City” and “Resident Evil Re:Verse”. Interestingly, although Ada was initially planned for “Resident Evil Village”, her role ultimately didn’t make it to the final version.

Character HUNK, from the Resident Evil series, has not been given a significant part in any of the mainline games thus far, although he did appear in Resident Evil 2 and reprised his role in the remake’s secret mode. You might recognize him from The Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 4, its remake, and the game Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. HUNK had a story-related appearance in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, but his role was limited to an additional online mode.

Character Hunk appears in “Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles” and “Resident Evil Re:Verse”. A notable feature is his appearance in the Raid Mode of “Resident Evil: Revelations” and “Resident Evil: Revelations 2”, which resembled online role-playing shooter games. However, it’s important to note that HUNK’s data can be accessed using a cheat device in “Resident Evil Outbreak” and “Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2”, but since he wasn’t fully completed for the PS2 releases of these games, they don’t officially count.

Trick’N Snowboarder

In the gaming world, I’ve had quite a run in the Resident Evil series. Back in 1998, I was one of the two main playable characters in Resident Evil 2, and then again in its 2019 remake. From there, I got my own spin-off game, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which later transformed into an on-rails shooter named Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica. Another on-rails adventure, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, primarily focused on the events of Resident Evil 2 and my own story in Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.

In the narrative of various games, Claire took a back seat for some time. However, she made a comeback in “Resident Evil: Revelations 2,” where she teamed up with Moira Burton, Barry’s daughter. You can find Claire in multiple multiplayer modes across games such as “Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D,” “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City,” and “Resident Evil Re:Verse.” Her most amusing portrayal was in the less-known PS1 snowboarding game titled “Trick’N Snowboarder.

Players first experienced him through a separate mode in Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, and later in the multiplayer mode of Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. In the HD remaster of Resident Evil 0, Wesker Mode was introduced as an alternative to Billy, partnering with Rebecca throughout the entire campaign.

Wesker was showcased in The Mercenaries mode across games like Resident Evil 4, its remake, Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. He’s also playable in Raid Mode of Resident Evil: Revelations 2, and he received a new campaign in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. Additionally, he was a playable character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, and later joined the ranks of killers in Dead by Daylight, securing two impressive roles for him.

In “Resident Evil 2” and the subsequent remake, along with Claire, Leon S. Kennedy made an appearance. This includes the cooperative game, “Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles,” which recounts certain events and expands upon his backstory. At that time, he was still a novice, but by “Resident Evil 4” and its 2023 remake, he had matured into an expert, with these games being highly acclaimed as standout entries in the series. In “Resident Evil 6,” Leon took part in three main campaigns, working alongside Helena Harper.

Among the spin-offs featuring Leon Kennedy, one of them stands out as an unusual title – “Resident Evil Gaiden”, which was played on the Game Boy Color alongside Barry Burton. Leon’s character can be found in various modes across several games such as “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City”, “Resident Evil: Revelations 2”, “Resident Evil Re:Verse”, and even as a guest character in “Dead by Daylight”. Similar to Claire, Leon has also made an appearance in “Trick’N Snowboarder”. In “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis” and its 2020 remake, Jill had a more independent storyline to follow. Although she played a significant role in “Resident Evil 5,” she wasn’t made playable until the DLC was released later on. Fans can currently enjoy her character in various games such as “Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles,” “Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D,” “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City,” “Resident Evil Re:Verse,” and “Dead by Daylight.

In another team-based multiplayer game titled “Resident Evil: Resistance,” Jill, who was the main character in “Resident Evil: Revelations,” is one of the few familiar faces. She previously partnered with Parker Luciani in “Resident Evil: Revelations” but was only playable in Raid Mode for the sequel, “Resident Evil: Revelations 2.” Jill has also appeared in various crossover roles such as “Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes,” “Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds,” “Project X Zone,” and “Project X Zone 2.” Lastly, she was featured in the lesser-known Capcom game “Under the Skin” for PS2, where she had a playable role due to her cloning abilities as an alien attempts to imitate human identities to take over Earth.
