In the world of One Piece, family plays a prominent role, with themes like legacy, defiance, and others interweaving throughout the plot. This leads to numerous crucial families, frequently revolving around key characters. Some of these families are extensive, carrying substantial backstories that add depth to their role in the narrative.
In the world of One Piece, we’ll mainly discuss some of the most extensive bloodline families. While adopted relatives can be included, they should not outnumber the biological ones significantly. This list primarily includes characters who have been introduced or mentioned in the series, although not every family member may appear. However, it does include several notable characters from each family.
6. The Kozuki Family
5 Members
- Known Members: Oden, Momonosuke, Hiyori, Toki, Sukiyaki
The Kozuki lineage holds a long-standing legacy within Wano, stretching back for countless generations. They share ancestral bonds with the Mink Tribe, and are believed to be the creators of the mysterious Poneglyphs, which only Kozuki Sukiyaki can decipher. Sukiyaki once held the title of Shogun in Wano, and had planned for his son, Oden, to succeed him. However, Oden’s rebellious nature caused the elder Kozuki to exile him. Later on, Sukiyaki recognized his son’s leadership skills and power, leading to a reconciliation between them.
In the course of his voyages with the Whitebeard Pirates and Roger Pirates, Oden had the extraordinary experience of marrying Amatsuki Toki, a woman who could travel through time. Together they had two children, Momonosuke and Hiyori. However, Oden did not ascend to the position of shogun as Kurozumi Orochi seized control over Wano and compelled him into a struggle against Kaido. Tragically, Toki was murdered, but before her death she managed to send Momonosuke into the future along with four of Oden’s loyal followers, keeping Hiyori apart from her brother. Sukiyaki miraculously survived the execution, yet felt tormented by his failure to thwart Orochi’s usurpation and retreated into solitude. After Orochi’s downfall, Momonosuke rose to become shogun, restoring the Kozuki family’s authority over Wano.
5. The Donquixote Family
6 Members
- Known Members: Doflamingo, Rosinante, Mjosgard, Homing, Homing’s Wife, Shivercalero
The lineage of the Donquixote family originates from the kingdom of Dressrosa, which was once ruled by their ancestors before they joined the First Twenty to establish the World Government, some of whom became Celestial Dragons. Donquixote Homing relinquished his title as a Celestial Dragon and chose to live as a commoner alongside his wife and their sons. However, their eldest son, Doflamingo, was displeased by the surrender of privileges.
In summary, Doflamingo’s mom passed away due to an illness, and in anger after gaining his initial followers, he murdered his own father. His brother Rosinante became a marine and secretly infiltrated the Donquixote Pirates, but was eventually exposed as a spy and slain by Doflamingo himself. Doflamingo then seized control of Dressrosa, ruling as its king while also holding the position of a Warlord for the World Government. He was later subdued by Monkey D. Luffy and is now imprisoned in Impel Down.
Mjosgard, much like Homing’s family, is another notable Donquixote. He was the second to declare himself a human instead of a deity, but it wasn’t an easy choice. His promotion to Warlord forced him to lose his Fish-Man slaves. In search of them, he found himself on Fish-Man Island, where he was viciously attacked and left for dead. However, Queen Otohime spared him, causing Mjosgard to reconsider his previous beliefs. Another Celestial Dragon named Charlos aimed to enslave Otohime’s daughter, Shirahoshi, at the Reverie. Mjosgard tried to protect her, but this act led to his execution.
Mjosgard, like Homing’s family, is a well-known Donquixote. He was the second one who decided to be human instead of a god, not an easy decision. His promotion made him lose his Fish-Man slaves. He went looking for them on Fish-Man Island and got badly hurt. But Queen Otohime saved him, which made Mjosgard rethink his old ways. A man named Charlos, also a Celestial Dragon, wanted to enslave Shirahoshi, Otohime’s daughter, at the Reverie. Mjosgard tried to protect her, but this action led to his execution.
4. The Vinsmoke Family
7 Members
- Known Members: Sanji, Judge, Reiju, Ichiji, Niji, Yonji, Sora
For many centuries, the Vinsmoke clan has held power over the Kingdom of Germa. The current head of this family, Vinsmoke Judge, was once connected with MADS, an underground research facility that made groundbreaking discoveries about the genetic lineage. They misused this knowledge for cloning and manipulating DNA. With his scientific expertise, Judge engineered his sons to be emotionless superhumans before they were even born. However, his wife, Sora, disagreed with these actions and unsuccessfully tried to reverse them by taking a drug.
The third-born son, Sanji, was the only one who resisted alteration, as he had strong emotions but no extraordinary abilities at birth. Often picked on by his siblings, he shared a special bond with his mother, Sora, whom he delighted in cooking for. She stood by him until her demise. Following Sora’s passing, Sanji managed to break free from his family, receiving assistance from his sister Reiju, to pursue his dreams in the culinary world.
Observing from a distance, it became apparent that despite Sanji’s previous rejection of them, his family persistently sought to force him into an arranged marriage with Charlotte Pudding. Both families seemed intent on undermining each other in the process. However, Sanji made a firm stand against his family again, distancing himself further. Interestingly, during the events in Wano, Sanji’s extraordinary abilities manifested unexpectedly, much to his dismay. Yet, it’s clear that his feelings remain very much alive.
3. The Kurozumi Family
7+ Relatives
- Known Members: Orochi, Kanjuro, Tama, Higurashi, Seminaru, Orochi’s Grandfather, Kanjuro’s Parents, additional unnamed relatives
For a considerable period, the influential Kurozumi clan ruled over Wano. Seizing an opportunity when a past Kozuki shogun lacked an heir, they aimed to usurp the throne. But their scheme was thwarted upon the birth of Sukiyaki, leaving them frustrated. Regrettably, this led to violent mobs targeting innocent members of the Kurozumi family, including Orochi, a descendant of the initial instigator. This unfortunate event made it simpler for Kurozumi Higurashi to persuade his kin to persist in their power grab attempt.
Orochi seized the opportunity during Oden’s absence to assume the position of Wano’s shogun. Known for his self-indulgent rule, he paid scant attention to his people’s needs. Upon Oden’s death at Kaido’s hands, he ordered mobs to hunt down and eliminate the remaining Kozukis. However, his reign was cut short by Kaido who overthrew him. Miraculously, he survived thanks to his Devil Fruit, which granted him seven additional heads. In the end, Orochi met his demise at the hands of Hiyori, Oden’s daughter, and Denjiro, his former ally.
As a passionate connoisseur of stage arts, I myself belonged to a family where my parents were esteemed performers, entirely innocent in the foiled Kurozumi coup d’état. Regrettably, my parents suffered unjustly at the hands of misguided vengeance. Eventually, my kinship led me to serve among Oden’s most trusted associates as one of his closest confidants. Over time, I became a valued member of the Nine Red Scabbards.
Throughout this association, I kept Orochi informed about Oden and his allies’ activities. Alas, my deceit was unveiled when Orochi required me to abandon my role and return to him personally. In the end, it was Kin’emon, the head of the Nine Red Scabbards, who took my life.
Tama serves as an apprentice ninja, honing her skills for battle. The Kibi Kibi Fruit she possesses was instrumental during the conflict between Kaido’s troops and the alliance consisting of Ninjas, Pirates, Minks, and Samurais. By offering Kibi candy to creatures, even those controlled by SMILE, she managed to make them switch allegiance. Interestingly, despite her lineage as a Kurozumi, it appears that none in her immediate group recognize her ancestry.
2. The Shimotsuki Family
10+ Relatives
- Known Members: Roronoa Zoro, Kuina, Yasuie, Koushirou, Ryuma, Kouzaburou, Yasuie, Ushimaru, Furiko, Toko (by adoption), and others
The Shimotsuki family traces its origins to Wano Nation, where Ryuma is known as their founding ancestor. Their family crest features a pair of crossed swords, fittingly held by many skilled sword-wielders within the clan. At present, no living blood relatives of the Shimotsuki lineage can be found in Wano. However, it’s worth noting that Ushimaru, who was once the daimyo of Ringo, and Yasuie, the former daimyo of Hakumai, have both passed away. Nevertheless, Toko, Yasuie’s adopted daughter, continues to reside in Wano.
In the East Blue region, Ushimaru’s sister Furiko and her relative Kouzaburou, a skilled blacksmith, established their lives along with local families. Their offspring, namely Zoro and Kuina, were childhood companions and competitors, each aspiring to achieve the title of the World’s Strongest Swordsman. Tragically, Kuina lost her life in an accident, which motivated Zoro to strive towards that title as a tribute to both of them.
Despite Zoro having some understanding about the Shimotsuki clan, it’s yet to be determined how he is related to them personally. It remains a mystery whether he was acquainted with his grandmother or even his parents who are both passed away. However, during his journeys, Zoro has met a few of his family members.
1. The Charlotte Family
80+ Members
- Known Members: “Big Mom” Linlin, Katakuri, Perospero, Smoothie, Cracker, Oven, Daifuku, Pudding, and many more
In the world of “One Piece,” Charlotte Big Mom Linlin stands out as the head of the most extensive family without contest. Originally an orphan, she was adopted and eventually grew into a woman with 85 confirmed offspring and a staggering 43 ex-husbands, who were taken captive before their divorce after each birth. This massive family is a reflection of Big Mom’s aspiration for a vast kinship. Big Mom’s family isn’t limited to her children; she also has numerous in-laws due to strategic marriages that serve to bolster her political influence.
Bege (married to Chiffon), Aladine (married to Praline), and Gotti (married to Lola). She also has one grandson through Bege and Chiffon named Pez. It’s been hinted that Linlin has more family members, with Sanji’s former fiancée, Pudding, frequently talking about her siblings’ spouses and offspring. In essence, the Charlotte Family, due to its extensive number of members, is the largest in the series.
