This keeps viewers on tenterhooks, speculating and questioning what the main character is fleeing from, which adds to the excitement of a well-crafted horror movie. However, unlike most horror films, Longlegs takes an unusual route. Longlegs refers to the infamous occultist serial killer that FBI agent Lee Harker is pursuing.

In my opinion, “Longlegs” doesn’t linger on suspense like many other horror films do. Instead, it plunges us right into terror with an unsettling opening scene where the killer speaks to a young girl. The camera strategically positions Longlegs’ decapitated head at the top of the screen, only for him to shockingly appear in full view when we least anticipate, offering viewers an eerie first glimpse of this occultist genius.

6. The Descent

Crawlers

The story, “The Descent,” unfolds around a band of young female explorers embarking on an expedition within the Appalachian Mountains’ caves. A tunnel accident ensnares them, leaving no apparent exit route. As the main character, Sarah, and her companions struggle to find a means of escape, it gradually becomes clear that they are not the only occupants of these unexplored subterranean passages. Strange noises echo, and they stumble upon a colossal heap of animal carcasses.

With the camera’s night vision activated, the group managed to get a clear view for the first time of the fearsome creatures dwelling within the extensive network of caves they found themselves trapped in – the crawlers.

5. Pulse

The Fumbling Ghost

Even if you’re not deeply into Japanese horror films, chances are you’ve come across this particular scene from the movie “Pulse.” The plot revolves around ghosts gradually infiltrating our physical world through the internet. A significant character named Yabe, while returning home one evening, spots a door marked with red tape. Curiosity piqued, he steps inside and the camera trails him as he advances towards a wall that’s also covered in red tape.

As Yabe momentarily stops, a chilling sensation sweeps through the audience as the music swells ominously, and the scene abruptly shifts to the opposite end of the hallway, revealing a ghost lurking in the darkness. The spectral figure then moves with an unsettling, otherworldly pace towards both Yabe and the viewers, making its supernatural nature undeniably apparent.

4. The Substance

Monstro Elisasue

At the peak of the novel “The Substance“, an anxious Sue finds it tough to maintain her composure since Elizabeth, the initial host, has passed away. Overstepping the rules of The Substance, Sue performs the cloning process again. This time, the scenario mirrors the first instance where Elizabeth awoke as Sue in her bathroom; similarly, Sue wakes up in the bathroom, taking a fleeting look at herself in the mirror before fully rising.

With a swift glance at the mirror, viewers catch a chilling reflection of either Elizabeth or Sue, transformed into something grotesque, allowing only a fleeting moment for the audience to grasp the dreadful impact of The Substance’s abuse before it sinks in fully.

3. Saw

Jigsaw

In the initial Saw movie, the elusive Jigsaw killer stayed hidden for much of the story. But in the final scenes, he chose to unmask himself. At this stage, spectators thought Zep was the culprit; however, during the last tape that Adam listens to while Dr. Gordon makes a desperate bid for help, the true identity of Jigsaw, John Kramer, is gradually disclosed. This revelation meant that Adam’s escape plan had essentially collapsed (figuratively speaking).

It’s in this moment that the viewers come to understand that the body confined within the room alongside Adam and Dr. Gordon throughout the movie had been, in fact, the one orchestrating their captivity all along.
