Top 9 Peacemaker Characters: Ranked!

Summary

  • Peacemaker successfully continues the story from The Suicide Squad with dark humor and unique characters.
  • Judomaster provides fun fight scenes, despite being less detailed than other characters.
  • August Smith’s portrayal sheds light on Peacemaker’s darker traits and the impact of his upbringing.

As a devoted fan, I must say that taking a film and turning it into a series can be quite the daring move. However, Peacemaker, as a direct follow-up to James Gunn’s 2021 masterpiece, The Suicide Squad, has undeniably knocked it out of the park. It not only reintroduces characters from that movie in more prominent roles but also presents fresh faces. Each character plays an integral part in making this series a one-of-a-kind, darkly comical extravaganza. But among them all, who stands out as the standout? That’s a question left for the viewers to ponder and discuss!

Keep in mind that being an outstanding character doesn’t automatically mean a person is exceptional overall. This series mainly revolves around redemption and confronting past mistakes, yet there’s at least one character who seems beyond reproach or change.

9. Judomaster

Not A Fleshed Out Personality, But Still Fun

  • Played by Nhut Le

The program features intricate characters who grapple with their imperfections and strive for resolution. Although Judomaster might seem less multidimensional, this doesn’t matter too much since his role in the storyline is vital. It’s always exciting when Judomaster makes an appearance.

In each of the eight episodes, the battle sequences are consistently imaginative, chaotic, and entertaining. It remains intriguing to anticipate his actions in Season 2 since their scheme by The Butterflies has been foiled.

8. Eagly

The List Is “Best Characters”, Not “Best Humans”

  • Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker

Make room, dogs! It seems that the Bald Eagle is indeed a man’s most trusted companion. Much like a loyal canine, this bird may not talk, but his character is undeniably apparent through his interactions with other characters in the series. He plays a crucial role in one of the show’s critical scenes as well.

After Adebeyo witnesses Eagly embracing the main character during a delicate situation, this act persuades her to stay with the team and take part in their decisive assault on the Butterflies. The silence and apparent lack of comprehension of spoken language in Peacemaker’s closest companion offers valuable insights into the hero’s character and social interactions.

7. Clemson Murn

A Serious Character With A Serious Secret

  • Played by Chukwudi Iwuji

At the onset of the performance, Agent Murn portrays the stereotypical leader of the team, exhibiting a no-nonsense attitude and maintaining an unyielding demeanor. However, upon the disclosure of his true persona, he demonstrates complexity. He is among the rare Butterflies who oppose their species’ scheme to govern Earth covertly.

Even though he was required to inhabit another’s body, he deeply regretted the wretched ordeal it entailed. He chose to defy his own kind by making the greatest sacrifice, which sets an inspiring precedent. Murn, given the chance to claim authority alongside other Butterflies, decided instead to strive for humanity’s salvation, becoming a model worth emulating.

6. Emilia Harcourt

More Than The Tough Agent Archetype

  • Played by Jennifer Holland

In the 2021 “Suicide Squad” film, Emilia Harcourt appeared. Interestingly, her character in the series reveals a more complex side compared to the ruthless agent portrayed on screen. The dynamics between her and Peacemaker are also intricate and not as straightforward as they may seem.

In this series, there’s an undeniable romantic connection, yet it steers clear of the conventional trope where the imperfect hero wins the affection of his love interest as a prize following his rehabilitation journey. The final scene finds her in a hospital, reaching out to grasp Peacemaker’s hand, leaving ample room for speculation about the direction their relationship might take in the upcoming season.

5. Vigilante/Adrian Chase

A Little Slow To Realize The Important Things

  • Played by Freddie Stroma

Peacemaker has a die-hard fan in Vigilante. This fellow admires him deeply and longs for his hero’s approval. However, as the series progresses and Peacemaker undergoes change, Adrian Chase finds it hard to keep up with the transformations his friend is going through.

He serves as a contrast for the audience, demonstrating where Peacemaker was at the start of the series versus his progress in later episodes. His instability reaches such extremes that he contemplates harming innocent veterinarians merely for recognizing him and Peacemaker. Yet, it’s worth noting that he harbors a strong hatred towards Nazis and white supremacists, which is commendable.

4. John Economos

A Team Player Who Gets Too Much Hate

  • Played by Steve Agee

In some instances, John Economos serves as the butt of Peacemaker’s toughest humor. Yet, despite this, he continually surpasses expectations with his heroic feats. However, even in a seemingly ordinary situation like a walk in the woods, he ends up suffering a broken leg.

In the latest episode, I stealthily invaded the farm where “Cow” is kept, leading me to unwittingly disclose the reason behind my beard-dyeing secret – a revelation that unknowingly drifted to Peacemaker and the team via their communication gadgets. Unveiling this truth made me painfully aware of how harsh my jibes at him had been throughout our series.

3. Leota Adebayo

Amanda Waller’s Daughter

  • Played by Danielle Brooks

Having Amanda Waller as a mother is quite a burden, but it provided Leota Adebayo with an opportunity for a relatively straightforward role. Regrettably, this appointment also came with the expectation of monitoring the team on behalf of her mother.

She struggles with the dilemma of deceiving the people she considers friends. Eventually, she confesses her actions and faces severe consequences as a result, but tries to rectify her mistakes. By the final episode of the season, she manages to win back some trust, particularly from Peacemaker.

2. August Smith/White Dragon

An Evil Villain At Fault For Peacemaker’s Worst Traits

  • Played by Robert Patrick

Robert Patrick portrays the fathers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and most recently, Peacemaker. His portrayal of August Smith is exceptional, offering insightful scenes that shed light on why Peacemaker became the character he is.

As a film critic, I found myself captivated by this series, where humor and gravity coexist seamlessly, yet it’s during The White Dragon’s harsh critiques of his son that the narrative plunges into its darkest depths. Despite Peacemaker ultimately slaying him, there’s an undercurrent of lingering psychological trauma hinted at in the season finale, suggesting that our hero may never fully escape the emotional scars inflicted by his father’s tumultuous upbringing.

1. Christopher Smith/Peacemaker

The Show Dares Viewers To Like Him

  • Played by John Cena

In “The Suicide Squad,” Peacemaker initially portrays as an unquestionable antagonist due to his ruthless actions, including the cold-blooded killing of a significant character upon Amanda Waller’s instructions. However, rather than a straightforward transformation into a virtuous character, the series follows his journey towards redemption. Yet, it is not guaranteed that he will become an entirely good person by the show’s end; instead, his path may involve complex moral shifts and challenges.

Despite carrying several ingrained imperfections from his past, he seems to be moving in the right direction. The fact that he chose to thwart the Cow’s destruction following the Butterflies’ plan for global control, with the intention of safeguarding it, suggests a departure from his previously evident authoritarian tendencies, which were prominent in his initial movie release.

To Top it all off, John Cena simply lights up every scene he is in with the performance.
