Top Demon Slayer Characters We Lost Way Too Soon

Summary

  • Shinobu Kocho’s early death against Doma robbed fans of seeing her potential in fighting Muzan later on.
  • Muichiro’s demise at the hands of Kokushibo deprived viewers of witnessing his immense talent and potential at a young age.
  • Nakime’s premature death by Muzan cut short the revelation of her powerful Blood Demon Art and untapped potential.

In this animated series called “Demon Slayer,” there’s a constant threat of demise because of the dangerous environment. Since demons are everywhere, it seems that no one can escape their fate, leading to numerous characters meeting untimely ends.

These characters were pulled out of their stories prematurely by the creators, leaving many fans believing that there was still untapped potential in their development, be it as humans or demons.

6. Shinobu Kocho

The Insect Hashira

  • Killed by: Doma

Shinobu Kocho serves as one of the Hashira, specifically known as the Insect Hashira. Despite her physical weakness, she demonstrates remarkable intelligence and speed, which often compensate for it significantly. During the events of the Infinity Castle arc, she encounters her sister’s murderer, Doma. Although Shinobu was determined to eliminate him, she was willing to risk her own life in the process if necessary.

In their confrontation, Shinobu demonstrated remarkable abilities and strategies versus Doma, but unfortunately, these efforts proved fruitless as she was vanquished and consumed by him. However, this was part of her strategy, as her body contained a poison that eventually killed Doma, making it possible for the others to decapitate him. Regrettably, Shinobu’s demise transpired prematurely, leaving fans intrigued about how her battle with Doma could have unfolded or if she would have participated in the fight against Muzan.

5. Muichiro

The Mist Hashira

  • Killed By: Kokushibo

In the anime Demon Slayer, Muichiro served as the Mist Hashira, a beloved figure among fans. Remarkably young even for a Hashira at just 14 years old, he was exceptionally gifted and showed immense promise. This was evident in his ability to single-handedly defeat members of the Upper-Rank Demons, a feat few other characters could match.

In the climactic phase of Demon Slayer, he encountered a particularly tragic demise. He was pitted against Kokushibo, the demon more formidable than even Muzan. Facing Kokushibo, Muichiro had no hope for survival. Sustaining fatal wounds, he could not participate in the battle against Muzan. Indeed, at just 14 years old, Muichiro’s life was cut tragically short, and it would have been captivating to witness him confronting Demon King Muzan.

4. Nakime

The New Upper Rank 4

  • Killed by: Muzan

Nakime, a formidable demon, had not yet fully demonstrated her capabilities. Post Hanatengu’s downfall in the Swordsmith Village storyline, Nakime ascended to the position of Upper Rank 4 Demon, a move well justified.

The power of her Blood Demon Art was immense, enabling her to command everything within her constructed Infinity Castle. Such a crucial ability earned its own story arc, and this fortress served as a shield for demons against sunlight.

In the course of the Infinity Castle saga, I found myself witnessing an impressive display as she skillfully held off not one, but two Hashiras – Mitsuri and Obanai. However, it was when Yoshiro stealthily approached and manipulated her that she was rendered helpless. This unexpected control shift provoked a struggle between Muzan and Yoshiro over her, yet he failed to regain command. Ultimately, Muzan’s last desperate measure was to end her life, showcasing the untapped potential Nakime carried within.

3. Kaigaku

The New Upper Rank 6

  • Killed By: Zenitsu

Previously, Kaigaku resided at the temple where Gyomei provided care for orphans. However, he broke their trust by permitting demons to infiltrate the sanctuary. Subsequently, he turned his back on his fellow Demon Slayers when he allied with the demons upon encountering Kokoushibo. This treachery led to the suicide of Jigoro Kuwajima. Following the defeat of Upper Rank 6, Gyutaro and Daki, Kaigaku ascended to the position of Upper Rank 6.

During the Infinity Castle arc, Kaigaku’s journey would unfortunately come to a quick conclusion. He encountered Zenitsu, a fellow student with Thunder-breathing abilities, whom he had known before. Without much struggle, Zenitsu overpowered him, thus fans were unable to witness the full extent of Kaigaku’s demonic prowess.

2. Kanae Kocho

The Flower Hashira

  • Killed By: Doma

Kanae Kocho was the deceased Flower Hashira, who is notably the elder sister of Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, as well as adopted sibling to Kanao. Sadly, her appearances in the story were limited due to her unfortunate demise while battling one of Demon Slayer’s strongest and most dangerous enemies, Doma – an Upper Rank 2 demon.

Kanae held her own against Doma until dawn, miraculously avoiding being consumed by him. Regretfully, the wounds she suffered proved too intense for her and she passed away in Shinobu’s embrace. Fans would have eagerly anticipate more of Kanae’s storyline, but tragically, she met her end prematurely.

1. Rengoku Kyojuro

The Flame Hashira

  • Killed by: Akaza

Without a doubt, one cherished character who was tragically departed from “Demon Slayer” followers is Rengoku Kyojuro, the Flame Hashira. This adored character is the first Hashira fans witness dying, as Kyojuro sacrificed his life in a fierce battle against Upper Rank 3 Demon, Akaza.

Although Kyojuro possessed great strength, it was insufficient when compared to an Upper Rank Demon like Akaza. Tragically, Kyojuro suffered a lethal wound and passed away shortly thereafter. It’s intriguing to speculate about the role Kyojuro might have played in the Demon Slayer narrative if he had lived on.
