This version maintains the original meaning while using slightly different word choices for improved readability and flow.
7. Anders
A Dad Trying To Do His Best

In the first season, Anders isn’t able to fulfill his dream of being a hero. He appears as a survivor from a prior demon assault. It’s not until episode three that we learn Anders was covertly working for The White Rabbit due to having his daughters held hostage. Essentially, Anders is a devoted father striving to do what’s best for his girls.
In due course, Anders finds himself apprehended by the Vice President and unceremoniously ejected from a helicopter. It appears he meets his demise, but there’s a chance this is a misdirection. Anders might resurface in season two, offering an opportunity for him to make amends for his past actions against Dante and the rest of the group, potentially embarking on a path towards redemption.
6. Agni & Rudra
A Double Dose Of Comedy

In the video game “Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening,” Agni and Rudra were portrayed as main antagonists. These two are demonic twins who possess the abilities of wind and fire respectively. During the game, Dante acquires their weapons upon successfully overcoming them in battle.
In the animated series, these characters are portrayed as two low-ranking demons. They hold Dante in high regard and frequently express their admiration for him, such as in episode three where he pursues them on a motorcycle down the highway, even using it to strike them. Ultimately, Dante eliminates both of them because they were malevolent demons who had no qualms about causing harm to numerous people, including the Vice President. These villains are the kind that viewers enjoy seeing defeated, much like the antagonists in a popular Saturday morning cartoon.
5. Vice President Baines
Go With God

In essence, while William Baines technically holds the position of Vice President of the United States, in practice, he functions much like a President, as the actual President, Hopper, lacks leadership qualities. Initially, Baines appears to be an admirable figure since he leads Darkcom, the organization Lady is part of. However, his methods for capturing Dante may not be entirely above board, but it seems that his intentions are well-meaning.
As he appears more frequently on-screen, it gives the impression that there’s something secretive lurking behind those calm, religious eyes of his. His true nature is revealed when he murders Anders and betrays Lady, also involving himself in the underworld. Primarily played by Kevin Conroy before his sudden demise in 2022, Baines will be remembered due to Conroy’s outstanding performance.
4. Enzo
A Broker With A Heart

In the anime adaptation, Enzo serves as Dante’s broker, but gamers might find this confusing because he wasn’t featured in the games beyond a brief mention in the manual. However, when Enzo emerged as a key character in the Bayonetta series, he gained a new identity. Just like Cid from Final Fantasy, who appears across various worlds, Enzo can be seen as Hideki Kamiya’s recurring character, as both Devil May Cry and Bayonetta were under his direction.
In the Netflix show, Enzo initially appears as a self-centered, overweight character serving as comic relief. However, it’s not until episode eight where we witness his transformation. He bravely sacrifices himself to save Dante, demonstrating that there was more to Enzo than just a common ruffian, showing us he had a redeeming quality all along.
3. Mary Ann Arkham / Lady
A Major Attitude Problem

In the game “Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening”, it was Lady who made her debut, joining Agni and Rudra as a character. At that time, her background wasn’t extensively explored because the PlayStation 2 versions of the game focused more on action gameplay than story development. In “Devil May Cry” 5, we learned a bit more about Lady, but she still took a supporting role compared to the main playable characters such as Nero, Dante, and V.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about Netflix’s anime adaptation, which delves deeper into Lady’s backstory, her deep-seated hatred for demons stemming from her mother’s tragic fate. What’s intriguing is how the story gradually reveals that the world isn’t merely divided into good and evil, causing Lady to reconsider her perspective. If there ever is a second season, it’s safe to predict that Lady will undergo a redemptive arc. To add, I found that Lady was given more spotlight than Dante in terms of screen time, making her character development even more captivating.
2. White Rabbit
A Villain With A Cause

In terms of quality, an anime is heavily influenced by its main antagonist, and the White Rabbit, whose name isn’t explicitly mentioned, certainly fits the bill as a formidable villain, not just within the Devil May Cry series but across the broader spectrum of anime. Initially portrayed as a demonic rabbit, it is unveiled in episode six that his villainous nature stems from his past. He was an orphan boy subjected to mistreatment in foster care. On one fateful day, he stumbled upon a gateway to the underworld and forged friendships with demons.
In a different phrasing: This individual has the capability to manufacture a portal gun and establishes a sanctuary for tormented demons in New York City as an escape route from the oppressive rule of Lord Mundus in the underworld. However, during a fateful meeting with Lady at a later date, her soldiers inadvertently massacre these innocent beings, giving birth to the White Rabbit. Despite his erroneous methods, the White Rabbit harbored benevolent intentions, similar to Baines.
1. Dante
Can’t Mess With The Devil In Red

Regardless of which anime or video game adaptation Dante appears in, he’s bound to be the most captivating character without fail. He exudes charm, and while he might have some overly dramatic lines, much like Spider-Man and Deadpool who also share a fondness for red, it only adds to his allure.
Dante, voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, is more than just a smooth talker; he’s filled with compassion. Time and again, he risks his own safety to help others, often finding himself injured in the process. This anime adaptation brings a modern twist to Dante’s character, making him one of the most iconic characters ever created.
