Typically, isekai anime feature one or two characters being transported to another world. But when an entire class gets transported, it adds a distinctive twist to the isekai genre. These shows often explore the relationships between classmates in this strange new environment and how these connections can shape or influence individuals.
Characters regularly encounter obstacles, with betrayals being among the most frequent, pushing them to become more resilient, both physically and mentally. These trials often result in significant transformations in their character, at times even altering their fundamental personality traits. Through tales of coping with desertion by their summoners or peers, as well as beating the odds against death, numerous anime series illustrate the shared experiences of entire classes as they traverse their fictional realms.
8. Summoned To Another World For A Second Time
A Protagonist’s Second Isekai Life
In a distinctive twist on the Isekai genre, this anime stands out as one of the rare completed series in its category. The main character, it turns out, is no stranger to the Isekai world, having been summoned there before with classmates on this occasion.
Throughout the narrative, it seems like he doesn’t have a close bond with his fellow students, as he gradually withdraws from interacting with them. One of the few classmates depicted, Kouma, embarks on a quest to locate the rest of them, enlisting Tōma, who is the main antagonist. However, it remains uncertain whether they were successful in finding the others or not.
7. My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One In This Other World Stands A Chance Against Me!
Abandoned As Bait
In terms of finding great companions, Yogiri Takatou fell short of the target. When he and his schoolmates were called upon by a mysterious figure named Sion to transition into sages in another realm via a bus ride, Sion along with most others left Yogiri and another classmate behind.
In most cases, Sion granted special abilities known as Gifts to the majority of them. Interestingly, exceptions were made for individuals like Yogiri and Tomochika who did not receive these Gifts. Moreover, they were purposely left behind, serving as a lure for a formidable dragon. However, this dragon was no challenge for Yogiri’s Instant Death power, an ability not derived from Sion that proved crucial in helping him and his new ally navigate this unfamiliar realm.
6. Sonny Boy
A Class Division In A Rule-Bending Dimension
In this anime, the storyline offers a fresh perspective on traveling to alternate realms. Here, both the students and their school are magically whisked away into another plane of existence. This other world operates under unique laws, ones that these students must learn to abide by in order to thrive and stay alive.
In the anime, Nagara and several of his peers were uniquely gifted with extraordinary powers, whereas others lacked these abilities, leading to discord within their group. The story primarily revolved around them as a class, filled with internal conflicts and disagreements, all while navigating through various dimensions in an attempt to find their way back home.
5. Loner Life In Another World
Thriving Solo In Both Worlds
Haruka wasn’t much of a social butterfly; he usually preferred solitude and pursuing his own activities rather than engaging with his classmates. This pattern continued even in the fantastical realm they were transported to, where he tended to avoid companionship whenever possible and interacted only when strictly necessary. It could be suggested that this character trait played a significant role in his abilities, as he made a point of slipping away when he spotted the summoning circle for magic, ultimately being the last one to receive abilities.
To clarify, Haruka didn’t harbor any hostile feelings towards his fellow students. Interestingly, this particular class was home to a diverse group of pupils, ranging from troublemakers to brainiacs. In a unique twist, Haruka had given each student a nickname, and some even embraced these new identities.
4. The Fruit Of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made
From Bully Victim To Savior
Prior to their journey to another realm, Seiichi Hiiragi’s fellow students often mistreated him cruelly, teasing him due to his looks. Even when the moment arrived for them to travel to a fantastical world, his classmates excluded him by forming groups and refusing to let him participate.
Fortunately, he was moved, albeit to a completely new destination. It was here where he stumbled upon the Fruit of Evolution, an artifact that drastically altered his existence, both physically and in terms of abilities. Remarkably, he remained kind-hearted towards his peers, using his newly acquired powers to transport them, as well as their teachers, back to Earth whenever possible.
3. So I’m A Spider, So What?
A Protagonist Reborn By Isolation
In contrast to typical narrative patterns where classmates might betray the main character, leading to a quest for revenge, these anime characters had minimal impact on the protagonist’s destiny. When transported to another world, some of them retained human forms, while others transformed into beings like Demons and Elves. However, our protagonist Kumoko found herself in the most vulnerable position as she became the weakest spider.
Over time, their paths diverged distinctly. Kumoko’s journey was particularly perilous, as she found herself in a constant battle within the dungeon, striving to grow stronger. By mere happenstance, she encountered one of her classmates, who almost fell victim to her, but Kumoko chose not to attack. In time, she grew grateful for that choice.
2. Failure Frame: I Became The Strongest And Annihilated Everything With Low-Level Spells
Betrayed By The Vote, Strengthened By Resolve
Based on the title, it’s clear how this series unfolds. Touka Mimori’s classmates didn’t drive the main plot, but they significantly influenced his character growth. They were all summoned to a fantastical realm, and Touka acquired an ability with a limited success rate, which was crucial to his journey.
The deity who called them, Vicious, discarded him to the debris of disposal due to this action, and the majority of his fellow students agreed with this choice. Only a handful of his peers, roughly three or four, did not contribute to this decision, while the rest found themselves marked by potential retaliation.
1. Arifureta: From Commonplace To World’s Strongest
The Abyss Of Betrayal
In this animated series, the main character, Hajime Nagumo, has never quite gelled with his schoolmates, often arriving late and dozing off during classes. One might expect that when they were all whisked away to a different realm, this would be his opportunity to excel. However, the opposite happened.
Initially, he found himself with ordinary skills and low statistics compared to his peers, which made them overlook him. To make matters worse, one of his classmates deceived him, plunging him into a perilous chasm, setting the stage for a transformed Hajime Nagumo.
