Summary
- Hiyori praised her brother Momonosuke once he became shogun, showing strong sibling support.

- Sabo becomes overprotective of Luffy after losing Ace, showing a deep sibling bond.
Having a faithful crew as a pirate is vital for companionship, but having a caring sibling can be an added advantage when times get tough. As fans of One Piece would agree, there are numerous siblings in the series who are far from supportive and considerate towards their kin, making those who seem helpful all the more precious.
Knowing that a loved one is out there navigating the world can provide encouragement for a pirate during challenging journeys, while others who aren’t pirates may find solace in believing that their kin will ultimately achieve success pursuing their passions. With this thought in mind, here are some of the most outstanding siblings in the One Piece universe, recognized for their dedication to safeguarding their family and providing unwavering support during critical moments.
8. Kouzuki Hiyori
Momonosuke’s Sister Was Ecstatic To Hear That Her Brother Was Still Alive
- First Appearance: Episode 892
Hiyori is the child of the late and revered samurai Kouzuki Oden. After her father’s assassination, she found herself living in a lawless nation under the rule of Kaido. Her brother Momonosuke, however, was transported 20 years ahead in time. Despite enduring a challenging childhood with only Kawamatsu for company, Hiyori never harbored resentment or ill feelings towards her brother. In fact, upon learning that he was still alive, she felt an overwhelming sense of joy and told Zoro that she had been looking for him for quite some time.
After long last, it’s truly touching to watch them reconnect – their joy at being reunited is so profound after such a lengthy separation. Hiyori’s tears upon seeing Momonosuke as the Shogun of Wano serve as a poignant reminder of her deep affection for her brother. Through all the hardships their family faced, she ardently wished for his success and triumph.
7. Gorgon Sisters
Hancock’s Sisters Will Protect The Ruler Of The Kuja Pirates With Their Lives
- First Appearance: 406
Hancock isn’t particularly friendly or easy to get along with, given that she takes pleasure in belittling those she considers inferior, a trait shared by many people. However, Boa’s sisters, Sandersonia and Marigold, remain steadfastly loyal to the captain of the Kuja pirates and are prepared to risk everything to protect her, as they vividly showed when confronting Luffy shortly after he arrived at Amazon Lily island.
The strong connection among the three sisters is deeply rooted in their shared past as former slaves, during which they relied heavily on each other for support until Fisher Tiger provided them with an escape route. Sandersonia and Marigold are fiercely protective of Hancock, and any pirate would consider themselves fortunate to have such devoted siblings as part of their crew.
6. Fukaboshi
Fukaboshi Does His Best To Keep His Princess Sister On The Straight And Narrow
- First Appearance: Episode 528
Despite being the mermaid princess of Fishman Island, Shirahoshi doesn’t appear particularly self-assured when representing her people. In fact, Shirahoshi has been quite tearful since she was young, with her mother frequently absent to advocate for equality between humans and Fishmen. As a result, it has fallen to her brothers to look after her.
Among his three siblings, Fukaboshi stands out as the most nurturing and protective towards his sister. This is largely due to his stern and grave demeanor. For instance, when Shirahoshi mustered the courage to visit the Reverie, it was Fukaboshi who reprimanded her for her disparaging remarks about royal families to keep her out of trouble. On multiple occasions, he also shielded her from being abducted.
5. Charlotte Katakuri
The Sweet Commander Hides His Mouth To Prevent His Sister From Being Ridiculed
- First Appearance: Episode 825
During the Whole Cake Island storyline, Katakuri, one of Big Mom’s formidable Commanders, initially appears to be the picture-perfect member of the Charlotte family. His prodigious physical ability, sharp Observation Haki, and extraordinarily potent Devil Fruit made it seem as if he had no flaws. However, what was hidden beneath this seemingly flawless exterior was a significant secret: his unusually large mouth.
Growing up, Katakuri often faced ridicule due to his distinctive mouth. Despite standing up for himself against bullies, it was his sister, Brulee, who bore the brunt of the teasing. To shield her from harm, Katakuri chose to conceal his fondness for eating donuts by wearing a scarf over his mouth and keeping his affection for them hidden from others, demonstrating the depths of his concern for his family’s welfare.
4. Nojiko
After Their Mother Was Murdered By Arlong, Nojiko Did Her Best To Protect Nami From Danger
- First Appearance: Episode 31
In contrast to me, who was usually regarded as the reasonable and calm one, Nami seemed to be the impulsive trouble-stirrer, always finding herself in precarious situations due to her persistent thievery. This wasn’t exactly welcomed by our adoptive mother, Belle-Mere, but surprisingly, Nojiko would secretly appreciate Nami’s knack for stealing.
After an unfortunate event where our mother was brutally murdered by Arlong, I took on the role of a protective guardian towards my younger sister, Nami.
In time, when Nami became part of Arlong’s team with the aim of liberating their village, Nojiko was close enough to understand that Nami’s motives were sincere and selfless. Even after being made to sport the Arlong tattoo on her arm against her will, Nojiko opted for the same mark, transforming it into a fashion statement rather than a lasting blemish. This action underscores the extent of Nami’s determination to bring even momentary joy to her beloved sister’s face from time to time.
3. Vinsmoke Reiju
Reiju Was The Only Vinsmoke Child To Support Sanji Rather Than Humiliate Him
- First Appearance: Episode 784
To put it mildly, Sanji endured a challenging childhood. Being the sole Vinsmoke sibling without supernatural abilities, as his mother used a drug to suppress these powers so he could maintain his emotions, made him an object of scorn within his family. His brothers and father relentlessly tormented him, making life unbearable. However, Reiju was the exception, exhibiting some empathy towards her brother.
To put it simply, it was actually Reiju who persuaded Sanji to flee from the Vinsmokes during his youth, an act that ultimately brought him to Zeff and the Straw Hats. Later on, when Sanji finds himself embroiled in family affairs once more, Reiju consistently aids him whenever possible, even though this often places her at odds with her father and brothers.
2. Sabo
Luffy’s Considerate Older “Brother” Becomes Very Overprotective After The Loss Of Ace
- First Appearance: Episode 494
As children, Luffy, Ace, and Sabo formed a strong bond that transcended blood ties, leading many, including the creator Oda, to perceive them as brothers due to their profound familial connection. Among these three, Sabo typically embodied the role of the compassionate and gentle sibling towards Luffy, contrasting with Ace’s demeanor. Even when Sabo chose to leave his biological family and embark on a pirate adventure, he requested that Ace look after Luffy to keep him out of trouble.
Upon losing my memories and witnessing my ship being destroyed by Celestial Dragons, I found myself in a state of amnesia. However, upon learning about Ace’s demise at Marineford, memories of Luffy surfaced, stirring a profound sense of protectiveness within me. This protection was so strong that I threw myself at Admiral Fujitora to shield Luffy during our time in Dressrosa and vowed to be there for him whenever he needed assistance. I also sought to uphold Ace’s legacy by acquiring his precious Mera Mera no Mi fruit.
1. Ace
Ace Supported His Younger Knucklehead Brother From The Beginning To The End
- First Appearance: Episode 91
Despite being the son of the infamous Gol D. Roger and facing scorn from many, Ace never encountered disregard or scrutiny from Luffy. Instead, their unique bond grew stronger over time. Even after a three-year separation, when they reunited in Alabasta, Ace continued to show unwavering support towards Luffy, asking his fellow Straw Hats to look after their captain while he was away on his own adventures.
Ace’s selflessness truly shines through in his actions, consistently prioritizing Luffy’s safety over his own. In a situation where the Marines were about to execute him, Ace urged Luffy to retreat instead of intervening, allowing Luffy to escape and carry on with his journey. Furthermore, it was Ace who took steps to keep Blackbeard from harming Luffy, risking his own life in the process. Ultimately, Ace sacrificed himself to protect Luffy, expressing gratitude one last time for Luffy’s unwavering brotherly love, despite the negative perception the world may have of him.
